Are You Leading or Am I?
Unsurprisingly my favourite episode of the season.
+ I loved everything with Eve/Villanelle. I think what surprised me the most was how hella romantic they were! A list of all the ways they were great:
- "We'd consume each other before we got old." That dance was so great. I loved the awkwardness at first and then the way they leaned into each other. I loved them both closing their eyes and savouring being in the other's arms.
- Villanelle giving Eve the ticket to the location of the money was completely unnecessary but great because of that. That is a lot of trust for her to show Eve.
- The way Villanelle opens up to Eve about her emotions and the honesty they shared.
- Villanelle calling them both having a hand in killing Dasha romantic and Eve essentially agreeing.
- "When I try and think of my future I just see your face over and over again." Wow, Eve.
- Eve asking Villanelle to help her stop and Villanelle doing it by suggesting they walk away and not look back. It definitely felt like Villanelle putting Eve's needs above her own. Last season she shot Eve rather than allow her to leave but here she gives Eve that opportunity.
- Both Eve and Villanelle stopping and looking back. They could end this and start over but they don't want to. They're not ready to let go of each other. They choose each other! I love it so much and it makes me so excited to see where this goes in season 4.
- I loved this exchange:
Villanelle: I think my monster encourages your monster, right.
Eve: I think I wanted it to.
I loved Eve making that confession but she absolutely revelled in what Villanelle made her feel. I've always loved the idea of Villanelle's bringing out Eve's inner darkness in a way she normally wouldn't allow it, and I love it being made so explicitly canon here. I also loved the exchange just before this with Eve specifically not calling Villanelle a monster (she kind of is Eve!) and instead bringing up her own monstrousness.
+ I liked how the bridge scene was shot.
+ Eve and Villanelle as the confused peanut gallery to Carolyn's hostage taking was super amusing. Enjoyed everything about that. Their commentary, the way they side-track things a little, all of their reactions to the drama. So much fun.
+ I loved this exchange between Eve and Carolyn:
Eve: I'm helping. ...Villanelle.
Carolyn: Of course.
LOL!
+ Oh, Carolyn. I felt really bad for her. This was already a difficult season for her but this end reveal - ouch.
+ I think the thing that left me most confused was Villanelle's sudden attitude change towards Konstantin. She not only doesn't try to save him (and when he first got on his knees she smiled slightly!) but she actively pulls Eve back from interfering. Even when he's begging her she does nothing. Then when Konstantin asks if she's coming she tells him "You're not family" and it felt so... contemptuous. It leaves me going a little ??? Why did learning that he maybe killed Kenny or seeing him plead/beg for his life cause that change?
+ Oh, Konstantin. I love you but you killed Kenny, you bastard! Or, maybe not. Who the hell knows? Villanelle believes him because he never kills anyone himself but I don't think that's a good reason. He absolutely would if needed. His attitude when he was leaving was so cavalier and casual that it made me suspicious. Does it make sense that Kenny could accidentally fall from that roof? Eh? I honestly don't know what I think but I'm leaning towards Konstantin did murder Kenny. Or, that rather than trying to help Kenny he was threatening the crap out of him and he did fall trying to get away from him.
+ Revealing Konstantin via Bear having a hidden camera he forgot about was such a cheap and contrived way to make that reveal.
+ Villanelle visiting the Bitter Pill had no real point but it was fun. Jamie is way braver than I would be in actually approaching her instead of immediately locking them into his office.
+ Villanelle had another insane yet excellent outfit - I loved the colourful suit and she looked amazing in it.
+ Rhian proved to be a lot of nothing. I was expecting at least a little bit of a challenge for Villanelle. Disappointing. Though I did enjoy their talk before the train arrived.
+ I figured it in the last episode but yup confirmed - Geraldine was, honestly, kind of unnecessary waste of screen time that could have been better spent elsewhere. [Like making Mo a character we knew so his death actually hit us.]
