Beautifully Broken
This was a pretty good episode.
• Sookie was her usual self – running into the woods after a scary werewolf made me roll my eyes – but we also got her taking down Jason (accidently), handling the gun with ease, and showing no fear at getting involved in a vampire/werewolf fight (and in fact getting involved in the fight at all instead of leaving them to it was great even though I should maybe be rolling my eyes at that as well, I’m not.)
- She also seemed less self-absorbed which was nice though she’s still all about Bill. I liked her asking about staying with Jessica because she didn’t want to leave her alone. I wish though that we had some indication that she’d thought of Tara at all.
- I loved Sookie’s impression of Bill calling her name – it was spot on and completely hilarious and it actually made me laugh out loud. ... Hee. Just thinking about it is making me giggle.
• The Sookie/Eric stuff was excellent and made me really happy. It does feel a little strange to have him so open to her but I’m willing to go with it. I mean he’s been drawn to her since the beginning, there’s that implied power she has over vampires (during the Sophie-Anne/Eric conversation in 2x13 which we had better get more on this season) and even more importantly it’s only been a couple days since a) she ingested his blood to ‘save his life’ and created a blood bond with him, and b) was there with/for Godric when he died. So even though he was really open/vulnerable with her in pretty much every moment of their interactions in this episode he’s been vulnerable to her before and he has reason for it. I do think if he really was that vulnerable to her he’d be trying to hide it though which makes me wonder if he’s strategic enough that he would use his feelings/vulnerability towards her as a way to get to her emotionally or if he’s so out of practice having them (for anyone other than Godric) that he can’t help himself?
- “Don’t underestimate me.” – Sookie
“Don’t underestimate yourself! Your life’s too valuable to throw away.” – Eric
I love how fierce he says that first line. I love his expression after the second line. It seems to me that he really didn’t mean to reveal as much as he did. Also I love that when he tells her ‘I think you’re human’ it’s not said in a derogatory way.
- “(Sookie starts crying) Please don’t do that. It makes me feel... disturbingly human.” – Eric.
- So Eric turning up at Sookie’s house later that night was.... a combination of her being in danger, him owing her for Godric (more being there for him in the end than going to Dallas to find him I would think), and her plea to him to help her?
- Also on the Eric/Sookie front I loved – a) Eric telling Sookie she’s going to invite him in so he can protect her and also have passionate primal sex with her, and getting all up in her personal space, and b) backing her into the side of the house and demanding that she invite him in, and her “Mr. Northman, will you please come in?” which I found interesting in that she called him Mr. Northman instead of Eric.
• I liked the scene with Lafayette’s mother and Lafayette’s interactions with Tara. He was really wonderful with her. She may have a horrible mother but her cousin is awesome.
• I’m glad to see that Lafayette’s getting his own love interest this season.
• Tara turning to the dark side with Franklin Mott is not a storyline I’m particularly looking forward to. So is Mott working for the King of Mississippi? Did he know who Tara was when he met her and thus his interest in her is about getting to Sookie, or was he drawn to Tara for Tara? It’s going to end so badly for her either way but I’m hoping it’s the latter. I also hope that his interest in Sookie means we’re finally going to get some answers this season about who and what she is.
• Jason (and Andy) for the most part remain boring and not all that interesting to me, though not in as much of a fast-forward way as in the last episode.
• We did have Jason/Sookie and I find them very sweet together.
• Sam was also boring though not in the same way as Jason (ie: fast-forward).
• Terry continues to be strangely sweet and adorable. I loved his scenes with Sookie especially him giving her a gun and then telling her “I’ve always liked you. And I’d miss you if you got killed.” and his reading off his list of reasons for why he should be trusted around Arlene’s kids made me go aww (and amused me when he continued while she was puking in the bathroom, oh, Terry).
• Bill’s storyline was... I’m actually not sure. Bill kicking werewolf ass at the beginning was cool but most of the episode was just him being a prisoner. I’m not sure how I feel about him setting Lorena on fire pretty much as soon as he saw her. I don’t really have strong feelings about her either way but I hope she’s not dead.
• I continue to like Jessica a lot and I loved her scene with Pam.
• I found Godric’s line “The blood is sacred.” interesting because it definitely implies that he believed the same/similar to how the Magistrate does and yet Eric clearly doesn’t. Hmm.
