Glee Thoughts

An okay episode.
• The truth about Quinn and Puck came out a lot quicker than I thought it would. Also I clearly haven’t watched the show in far too long, or my brain’s not working, because I have no idea when Mercedes learned the truth about Puck/Quinn. I feel like I missed an episode. It does amuse me that she told everyone in glee except Rachel. I’m surprised that Santana or especially Brittney never said anything to any of the other Cheerio’s.
• I loved the hallway phone conversation between most of the glee members. The best parts of this show for me are the glee kids interacting and slowly becoming friends or at least friendly and dealing with all the issues between them.
- Rachel being genuinely moved by Mercedes song, telling her that and then giving up the ballad solo at sectionals for her was one of my favourite moments. I loved “I’m going to hug you now.” and how genuine the hug seemed between the two. Also how happy and supportive everyone was during Mercedes’s song.
- I loved Santana confession that not only does she like being in glee club and wouldn’t do anything to sabotage it but that ‘it’s the best part of her day’. That actually does surprise me.
- I really want those background glee kids (Matt, Mike, Santana, Brittany) to get more screen time and interaction with the other glee kids.
- I also liked that Quinn wasn’t mad at Rachel for telling Finn, and the awkward Rachel/Puck moment in the hallway.
• The very best moment of the episode was definitely that Santana/Brittany exchange during the hall phone conversation where Santana asserts that “Sex is not dating.” (thus denying her attachment to Puck) and Brittany states in agreement “If it was Santana and I would be dating.” Hee. Oh, Brittany. Everyone’s expressions were hilarious and I loved the pause and then everyone continuing the conversation like it never happened. Though I won’t believe that it wasn’t gossiped about later between those original four glee kids, no way. I really hope the Brittany/Santana was the truth.
• Everything else was mainly meh and not even the music numbers really moved me. In fact when the audience got up and were dancing during the kids song I was rolling my eyes and going ‘right’.
1x14 ‘Hell-o’
I found this episode very meh.
• How Finn/Rachel and Will/Emma played out did not work for me. Both seemed pretty contrived.
- While I thought the first Will/Emma scene was kind of adorable Will proceeded to show just how much of an ass he really is later in the episode. I did like Emma a lot more this episode.
- The Emma/Terri scene really worked for me and I thought she was very mature in her break-up with Will.
- I am not sold on Jesse at this point. A) I don’t think he is a really good singer, though I liked his duet with Rachel, B) he is not that good looking to me, and C) the character himself isn’t working very well for me, which is the most important thing. He comes off very false and... smarmy? I wonder if this is how other people saw Logan Huntzburger because a lot of words used to describe him (which I never saw) are words I’d use to describe Jesse. Another issue I had was how fast the Rachel/Jesse thing happened – I know Rachel’s a teenager and she’s trying to cover her hurt from Finn’s rejection but yeesh. That said, Rachel maintaining a secret relationship with Jesse makes complete sense because there is no way drama queen Rachel could ever turn down the opportunity to play out her own version of Romeo and Juliet.
• Rachel dancing with Mike during her song to Finn caught my attention. I’d actually noticed during the group sectional’s performance that they had a moment where they danced and now in this episode they get this whole sequence. It makes me go hmm. I’ve wanted those background Gleekers to get more attention and Mike dating Rachel would certainly give him more spotlight. We don’t actually know anything about him but I like that idea more than I do Rachel/Jesse at this point. Or – they could become friends!
• It was nice to see at the beginning Rachel walking with Mercedes and Kurt, and being so friendly, since those are the two Rachel has the most contentious relationships with.
• I loved Santana and Brittney linking pinkies and being so in-step with each other. They really are attached at the hip (or pinkie) aren’t they?
1x15 ‘The Power of Madonna’
• I liked the music numbers in this episode a lot more. Like A Virgin, Vogue and 4 Minutes were all excellent and the early Cheerio’s dance number was really fun.
• I like Jesse a bit more.
• My first thought when Will and Emma came up with their little plan to help the girls was – ‘Um, the girls need to change?’ Because self-confidence building is good, but it shouldn’t be all on them.
