7x11 'Victoria Fenberg' [No. 137]
It was okay.
+ I do appreciate that Liz, despite her current issues with Red, was still going to invite him to Agnes's ballet. I enjoyed their talk.
+ It's been a year since I last watched this show so I'm a little confused about some of what's happening. Like Red saying that 'the woman in Paris' wasn't Liz's mother and that Maddie was a fake has me wondering: has Red broken his (very thin) rule of never directly lie to Liz, OR does he think the Katarina we've been watching is fake, OR is this Katarina not really the original Katarina/Liz's mom? Am I forgetting something here? Because he saw her die and definitely seemed to think she was actually Katarina and yet here he is trying to convince Liz that she was a fake. So he's given up the whole paper-thin concept of not lying to Liz then?
+ I loved that Red threatened the appraiser with dropping a waffle maker into his tub and then in the next scene with them Dembe is making everyone waffles for dinner.
+ I loved Victoria's dress.
+ Hmm, yet another Red betrayal. His friend clearly regretted it but still did it. Which seems to happen a lot.
7x12 'Cornelius Ruck' [No. 155]
I liked it.
+ I liked the plot of the episode with Red trapped in a murder mystery. I really enjoyed Red all episode. Watching him deal with the drama of his colleagues, of him figuring things out and taking out a bunch of bad guys and being a badass. It was fun. Also I loved the way he said "This means the butler did it", heh.
+ It's pretty significant that a) Red was actually planning on going away with Cassandra, b) Cassandra knew about Liz's existence and c) that he brought Cassandra to Agnes's recital. Considering this I hope she's not a one off character. Is Red's willingness to try a different life because he thinks Katarina is dead? He tells Cassandra: "I've fulfilled my obligation." which is very !!! for me considering how much his life has revolved around Liz and protecting her. Was he really going to let go of her? Is it growth if so, or damage caused by her past betrayals? Or, maybe he was just planning to go off for a week vacation with her or divide his time between them, but it didn't feel like it.
Cassandra tells him: "I saw you watching. How you looked... You may have come into her life out of obligation but you're staying in it for love." She's talking about Agnes here but it also stands true for Liz.
+ "We may not have bigger lives but we have each other." - Liz. This was really lovely. One thing I do love about their relationship is that it can encompass distrust/lying/betrayal while at the same time genuinely loving each other and wanting them to be in a good place.
+ It bothers me a lot that Liz doesn't ask Red to join them. I was waiting for it, it was set up - Liz asks him to be there, Red says he has nowhere to be, she tells him he deserves more and they have each other... and she was going to let him walk away instead of asking him to stay? Okay, that's dumb.
+ Red watching another little girl he loves doing ballet should have had massive weight that I didn't entirely get. I think because it didn't linger enough on him, and I didn't see sadness/regret along with the joy as he watched Agnes.
