Prodigal Son 2x01 Thoughts

+ Everything with Malcolm and Edrisa was excellent and reminded me how much I love them. Honestly I have to still marvel at how much they absolutely don't hit my embarrassment squick. It's definitely down to how Malcolm reacts to Edrisa's crush/fawning. He's not derisive or uncomfortable, nor does he condescendingly accept it. He finds her interesting and they connect in their interest in murder, death and the morbid. He's amused but not in a judgmental way, he genuinely finds her fun and likes her as a person. I found them delightful this ep, and I think they found each other delightful which was what made it so great.
- I love Edrisa's continued excitement at bringing Malcolm new and interesting bodies to look at. As if Edrisa's a cat bringing her person a dismembered mouse but unlike most people Malcolm loves his dead body gift.
- Dani asks "this is your version of looking up" and Malcolm and Edrisa immediately look at each other all '...yup, indeed'.
- I love how Malcolm knowing exactly when the last guillotine was sold gets a pursed lip side-eye from JT and an adoring grin from Edrisa. Both reactions were great. Also loved Malcolm's hangdog "it's not weird".
- I like that JT doesn't even consider who Malcolm's contact could be but Edrisa knows instantly who it is.
+ Not sure I'm sold on Ainsley apparently repressing her memory of what she did at the barest of instigation from Malcolm but I'll withhold judgment until I see how it plays out. Malcolm covering for Ainsley makes complete sense and I love that he'd go for extremes for her. But I feel like this is definitely going to blow up in their faces and I'm kind of excited to see how. Mostly I just really want a good storyline for Ainsley here. I don't want her completely oblivious for too long and I'm hoping that despite how normal she seemed it's a case of appearances being deceptive. I did think she seemed to be taking Malcolm murdering someone a little too blithely (even if she did hate Nicolas and thinks he deserved it) and not concerned enough about Malcolm considering she's well aware of all his neuroses.
+ Martin saying that Ainsley "wouldn't have survived that night without you" and that "she's not like us" was very annoying. Now I want her to prove him wrong. What happened to the proud 'my girl'. He should be more supportive! I bet she could be an excellent serial killer!
+ I liked Martin thanking Malcolm for saving his little girl and telling him not to torture himself over it anymore.
+ I loved that Malcolm called his dad for help in covering up the murder.
+ I was very amused that Martin's attempt to murder Jerry by electrocution ended up helping him instead.
+ "I'm looking at two of the best. (pause) And whatever Bright is." - Gil. LOL.
+ Dani taking such an interest in Gil's relationship with Jessica came a little out of nowhere but I guess it
Jessica overhearing the Gil/Dani talk makes me sigh.
