Lila & Eve

iariaOne of the better revenge movies I've seen. I do like the action packed ones too but this more serious realistic take on it was good and I loved this twist on a very common story.
+ Viola Davis was amazing. Beautiful performance and the movie really does hinge on her and she carried it so well.
+ I loved how this movie explored Lila's pain over her son's death and her struggle to deal with her grief and anger. I love how centred this movie was on mothers and the pain they feel.
+ I was so pleased that Lila got away with it all and left with Justin for a new future.
+ It bothered me while watching that Eve got so little focus. I assumed her lack of desire for revenge for her daughter and gung ho attitude towards revenge was because she'd already gotten revenge for her daughter and was left wanting to do it again. So it was frustrating to not get more of her and her relationship with Lila. I loved the reveal that she wasn't real. Looking back there were so many hints - the fact that no one else ever talks or acknowledges her, the slight confusion in the group about her, them knowing the same rhyme from childhood, Eve having been a designer and the reveal that Lila wanted to be one, Eve getting the papers from Lila's office.
+ I loved the support group coming together to save Lila and give her an alibi. That was a great little scene. They never talked about wanting revenge but I guess in the end a part of all them understood that feeling. The only sad part was that Lila ended up leaving behind a really great support group that she probably could still use.
+ I was excited for two women getting revenge together and while I liked the movie we got instead I still want that version too.
