Dolittle Thoughts
Feb. 3rd, 2021 09:25 pm... Yeah, that was pretty bad. There wasn’t much I really enjoyed about it, tbh.
+ King Rassouli and his conflict with Doolittle was a little fun and I liked how it resolved. Antonio Banderas seemed like he was having fun and it made his performance fairly enjoyable.
+ The dragon design and cgi was neat. I liked her.
+ The squirrel was okay and I kind of enjoyed his thoughts on the situation. The rest of the animals didn't work for me to the same degree. Though I did like the variety of them.
+ I think I would have liked the whole assistant plot more if said assistant had been a girl. Instead we got the only two human female characters either dying in a bed or mostly sitting beside the bed supporting her and it bothered me. Make the lady-in-waiting the prospective assistant and it might have worked better for me.
+ I totally thought they would find Lily alive. This is absolutely the type of movie that could have an unexpected survival. I mean she could even talk to animals too! Maybe she had amnesia or was being held captive? So that was a little disappointing.
+ In concept Doolittle losing his way and rediscovering it and realising that sharing his gift was the way to move forward isn’t bad but how it was written and played out – meh.
+ The writing as a whole was so cartoony and meh.
