The Secret of the Solitary Scribe

I loved Nancy going to Carson and asking if he wanted to come with her to bury her mother Lucy. That was a great olive branch and I'm so glad that Nancy made it. I really loved that she also called Ryan and had him meet them there and the three of them burying Lucy in the woods together.

I loved that Carson asked if Nancy wanted to invite Ryan before he knew he was there. It was very considerate. His and Ryan's nods in greeting were pretty cordial. I'm intrigued about where the story is going with them.

I liked how the show tied Hanna, and her burns, into the Aglaeca storyline.

I have to admit that I'm a little surprised that the gang isn't researching some possible way to help the Aglaeca or put her to rest. They know at this point that it is possible (Lucy) and they know the Aglaeca's sympathetic story (betrayed, murdered and tossed into the sea for her fortune) so why not try and figure out what she needs to be freed? The truth of what happened to her to come out? Probably something to do with the Marvin's (a Marvin to accept the guilt of what their family member did and apologise?)

Ace vs Tamura was good. I loved Ace's dad having his back.

I was surprised that Carson wasn't demanding more answers after what happened in the cabin with AJ. Nancy stonewalling him makes sense but why wouldn't he confront Ace or one of the others?

Ace going back to work was dumb. Because he was arguing with his dad while at home is even dumber. Hang out with Hanna doing research! Go to the library. Go to the beach. IDK. Literally anything else would have been better.

I liked Ace and Bess finding George and Nick in the truck and teasing them. Cute.

I liked that while Nancy was initially hurt and very against giving back her mother's bones when she felt like there were no other options she was immediately full steam ahead with Beth's plan.

I was honestly a little annoyed that Nancy went to Ryan for help getting in to see AJ. She's known that he's her bio-father for something like 3 or 4 days and in that time she's needed/gotten/asked for his help - 3 or 4 times. While also stone-walling and not wanting anything to do with him - which fair enough! But maybe stop turning to him, and his Hudson privileges, for help? I think what bugs me specifically this occasion is that she didn't actually need to go to him for help? Why not Carson? Why not sneak in? Is AJ not allowed visitors? Also her bringing up how she's never asked for money/dance lessons/etc as a sort of guilt trip doesn't makes sense when he literally never knew she existed.

I liked that Ryan is visiting Patrice and it would be nice if Nancy showed interest in getting to know her grandmother (only grandparent). Could that be a way for Nancy to also get to know Ryan better?

So Carson gets a weird call from AJ and thinks he's threatening Nancy (okay, makes sense) and... calls the police to say AJ is going to break into (Nancy's) house? What? Why wouldn't he have gone over to the house to check on Nancy? Also the police get a call from Carson, storm into Nancy's house and arrest the person she's talking with - even though she says that he didn't do anything. WTF? So Carson could call in say Nick and get him arrested because he's in the house? How that all played out was dumb. It would have made more sense if they'd found something to connect him to a crime via police work they've been doing in the background (the car fire, his friends deaths) and based on Carson's call showed up to arrest him.

I feel like they should have burned the doll in some random rural part of the woods so that they could go through AJ's things more thoroughly. And also didn't keep this evil demon filled cabin of a famous author sitting there like a trap for people o wander into.

Once again they made a huge mistake in having Owen actually die instead of being seriously injured and leaving town. Nancy, Bess and the others walking to the Claw and her saying that no matter anything else at least the five of them are there --- when six of them did the ritual, Owen is dead, he died literally days ago and yet still no mention of him. Neither Nancy nor Bess seem especially sad even though he was one's boyfriend and the other's favourite new family member. It continues to annoy me. Maybe because this is such a character misstep when usually I find this show good at them.
