Doctor Who 5x13 Review, Part 3

• How is it that River was able to remember the Doctor so that she could go to Amy’s wedding, and give her a smile and her empty book and thus cause Amy to remember the Doctor which then brought the Doctor back into the existence. Is there an actual reason or is it more timey-wimey stuff? Like the beginning with the Doctor freeing himself so... he could free himself. And once again River was looking gorgeous in this scene (and Amy too).

• Amy remembering the Doctor at her reception was excellent. When she interrupted her dad and started talking about the Doctor and was yelling for him it was really embarrassing and I couldn’t watch it the first time but I did the second time. Probably because I know that she’s immediately vindicated.

I loved the shot of Amy leaning forward on the table “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” I loved her smile seeing the TARDIS again and Amy just walking over the table to get to it as quickly as possible. (Also Rory being so confused about how they could have forgotten the Doctor.)

• Doctor: The brand new Mr. Pond.
Rory: No I’m not Mr. Pond. That’s not how it works.
Doctor: Yeah it is.
Rory: Yeah, it is.

*glee* I don’t even know how to say how much I loved this. ♥ I can’t think of any other show that has done something like this (I don’t even have to narrow it down by time period) So, so awesome.

• One of my favourite shots of the episode was Rory and Amy sitting together at a table watching the Doctor dance like an idiot with a bunch of kids. Her leaning back on him laughing, him kissing her lovingly on the cheek and smiling too, them holding hands and leaning heads against each other. I loved it. The girl who waited for her future and the boy who waited for her and them getting each other.

• When River showed up at the end I was filled with foreboding. I immediately thought – she’s going to kill the Doctor . I guess I am just used to cliff-hangers and I was expecting something to happen. Especially since I didn’t see her at the wedding celebrations and no mentions were made of her. She was there at the beginning to get the whole remembering ball rolling and then apparently disappeared for a couple hours only to show up right when the Doctor was leaving? It seemed a very weird choice – both strange and suspicious. She and Amy are friends. Why wouldn’t she have been there? Where would she have even gone?

• Why wouldn’t the Doctor take River wherever she wanted to go instead of giving her back the votex manipulator?

• Doctor: Are you married River?
River: Are you asking?
Doctor: Yes.
River: Yes.

Heh. The Doctor not being specific enough and then having to qualify amused me. Her final ‘yes’ to me seemed to clearly mean ‘yes’ to both. I loved how she said that last yes there was so much meaning in that. I love how enthralled he’s become by her. I love how he says her name.

- So are TPTB really going to go the route of the Doctor and River being married? I know that Moffat has shut it down as a possibility but that’s really what the whole thing comes off as to me and I think at this point I would be disappointed if they weren’t. That can’t be all they are of course. It can’t be all they are about because that is too simple and narrow. But I would love if it was a part of it. It makes me think of the Doctor carrying Amy’s ring in his coat and Moffat’s apparent love of foreshadowing.

• Re: who are you: “You’re going to find out very soon now. And I’m sorry but that’s when everything changes.” – River. I admit that I have no idea what it could be. What could be that massive, that world changing? Clearly it has something to do with his name and the fact that she knows it. I really wonder if she isn’t actually a Time Lord, or even Romana? The letters under her message to him in the last episode could have all only been the co-ordinates and the first two being Theta Sigma was just a little fanserive on the part of the PTB not anything with in show meaning. But if it does have in show meaning it could be a hint that she is a Time Lord and knew him when that was his nickname. Though at this point I love River so much for herself that I don’t really want her to be someone else, let alone a previous character.

- Doctor’s reaction to her warning was interesting. When she told the Doctor his name she apologized profusely and he was devastated and yet when she brings the future up here in very much the same tone and way, his reaction is to smile and go ‘mah’ like he didn’t believe her or like it wasn’t important.

• “You may absolutely, definitely may kiss the bride.” – Amy

Amy: Oi! Where are you off to? We haven’t even had a snog in the shrubbery yet.
Rory: Amy!
Amy: Shut up it’s my wedding.
Rory: Our wedding.

I find it fascinating that the show has Amy continue to flirt, aggressively and seriously even, with the Doctor even though she’s now married to Rory. I... kind of love it. Actually it’s not even ‘kind of’ I seriously completely love it. It’s TPTB turning conventions on their heads, again (Rory becoming Mr. Pond) and, by god, it works for me so much. In fact her flirting, which hasn’t worked for me so much this season, and just how serious and aggressive about it she’s being along with Rory’s casual going along with it and not showing a hint of disgruntlement or jealousy is... making me ship the three of them now. *hands* I don’t know! I think maybe it’s now hit my threesome kink? Now I can believe it – with the Doctor’s love for Amy and affection for Rory, Amy’s love for both boys and aggressive pursuit of the Doctor, and Rory (weak link till this point) with his new ease with his relationship with Amy, his non-jealousy to her flirting with the Doctor and his own building friendship with the Doctor – it’s working for me now. Not as anything permanent but I can see them adding a sexual/romantic component to their relationship while the two of them are travelling with the Doctor.

- ‘Oi ‘is never not going to make me think of Donna.

• I love Amy and Rory deciding without words that they’re going with the Doctor. No discussion needed.
