The Beacon on Moonstone Island
+ I loved Bess and George's shared look when Nancy gave her opinion of Amanda as "she's competent". Their little smiles! They were so amused and it seems like they're aware that Nancy feels more than friendship for Ace. I'm super curious about when they realised that.
+ This episode made it very clear that Nancy is aware of her feelings for Ace and is doing her best to ignore them. But it shows through in how uncomfortable she was when Gil kissed her in front of Ace and in her reactions to Amanda/Ace (her look at them holding hands.) I do like that she's never once rude to Amanda.
But I'm less clear on whether Ace is in the same boat or not. I think he does have feelings for Nancy but he was so taken aback when Amanda asked about his relationship with Nancy and his denial seemed sincere so I'm not sure.
+ I liked the Ace/Nancy talk at the end and his worry for her. Also the safe breaking moment was great.
+ I think Nick was jumping the gun a little when he told Ryan that "we lost Nancy". I think it makes complete sense that Nancy would yearn for love/acceptance from Celia and would want to believe Celia could change and want to give her the chance to. It's not like Nancy's defending Everett! I don't think it's going to happen but it'd be nice for Nancy and Ryan if it did.
I also thought he was a little harsh in questioning Nancy's choice when she got Celia's present. He knows, and says he understands, that she made her choice to save Ace's life so there should be no 'but' attached to it. At that point in the story Nancy had done nothing further to make him question where she stood. It would have made more sense coming after their final talk when she indicates she wants to give Celia a chance and puts on her beanie gift.
+ I liked George and Odette coming to an understanding. I like that when running free while George is asleep Odette spends a lot of her time hanging out with and helping George's sisters.
+ Gil is such a complete dick. His willingness to kill George was bad but since the show seemed to gloss over it I assumed it came off differently than they were trying for but with his behaviour with Amanda, nope, he's just a dick. I wonder if Ace's warning that Gil is controlling is foreshadowing that they're going to commit to him being a terrible person?
+ I liked how enthusiastic Amanda was at being involved in one of the cases and that she was a fan of the Drew crew. I also liked how helpful she was. I loved the scene where Nancy notices the handwriting is different for the specific entry while Amanda notices that the information contained is off. Also I loved her calling Nancy foxy.
+ Nick's idea for what to do with his apartment building is really lovely. I like it a lot.
+ Nancy allowing Birdie to release the Fire Souls so she could say goodbye was ridiculously dangerous, wtf Nancy? You'd think she would learn one of these days. They didn't kill Birdie's family and did protect Birdie but they have a very long history of murdering a ton of people. What exactly was she expecting here? Who's to say they wouldn't start attacking people so they could keep Birdie? Or even them simply returning to the island would be a negative considering that's letting them go back to their murdering ways. The fact that they randomly dissipated doesn't make much sense to me and feels like it happened simply to keep Nancy letting them out from being a massive mistake. Which annoys me.
+ Another 'easy' out - Frank confessing to murdering his brother and sister-in-law. But I don't care so whatever.
+ Nancy's first theory that the ghosts destroyed the ship and then saved Birdie out of extreme guilt so obviously made no sense to me that I couldn't believe any of them bought it. They were ruthless pirates who never left anyone alive - why the hell would they feel guilty about Birdie if they were the ones who destroyed the boat?
+ We didn't see a ton of outsider reactions to Nancy backing down on Everett but from what we did see I found it strange that everyone seemed to accept that Nancy simply lied about Everett instead of Everett getting to Nancy (threats, etc) and forcing her to recant. I'd like if we'd see some of that POV more in the next episode because Everett being cutthroat is very well known and Nancy as a good person who helps others is well known and that should cause more people to go 'hmm'. They could still be angry or disappointed in her for backing down but some people should be thinking that she was threatened into doing so.
