Grey's Anatomy 17x17 Thoughts

I liked the episode but there was a lot happening and because it was all compressed into one episode we missed a lot of scenes I'd have liked to have seen. Honestly I find myself wishing they'd given the events of this episode like 5 episodes with each covering 2 months and letting some of these stories have the room they deserved. The pacing of this season was really off. Things I wanted expanded on more:
- Maggie's wedding. I really wanted scenes between Maggie and her sisters, even just them helping her get ready for it would have been great. I wanted a moment between Maggie and Richard too. I also wanted Meredith and Winston to formally meet and get to know each other.
- Jo adopting a baby is a big thing but the only person we see her really talking about it with is Linc. I was especially missing a scene between her and Meredith. They have a lot to talk about (DeLuca, Jo switching to peds) and Mere went through her own drama with Zola and this could have been a great bonding thing between them. This part of her storyline really should have lasted longer. Plus her ask of Linc and the repercussions with Amelia should have been given more exploration.
- Amelia is silently struggling with her relationship with Linc and what she wants in life and Meredith is trying to get her life back, and I wanted the sisters supporting each other and/or opening up.
+ LOVED Meredith and Cristina texting about Mere getting a double lung transplant done first and Cristina's reaction to it.
+ It was so nice to see Meredith back at the hospital and fighting for patients and doing surgery again.
+ Oh, Amelia. She really didn't talk to Link about any of her feeling or misgivings at all, sigh. The scene between her and Richard was lovely and Richard's advice was great but she really should have been talking to others, especially Linc, about it.
+ Linc agreeing to foster Luna for Jo was really sweet and a great friendship moment between them.
+ How Linc dealt with Jo's request with Amelia however was not so great. Like this:
Amelia: Meredith’s my sister and her kids are my family.
Linc: They’re not mine. Technically. But I love them so I did it.
And sure, they're not technically his family by blood or marriage but considering he wants to marry Amelia and he's making a family with her that's a really thin line! Plus he didn't even ask Amelia before saying yes, to something that could potentially have a huge impact on their lives. He's was kind of a dick.
I felt for him over the proposal. He was so excited and happy-nervous over it and it was so painful when he actually did it. But at the same time while Amelia wasn't talking to him, he wasn't really talking to her either. Based on how the last proposal went he really should have had the sense to test the marriage waters again before making a big proposal.
Does this mean they're done? I kind of feel like the show is setting up Jo/Linc which I don't hate but also don't love. I liked Amelia/Linc! They were great together.
+ I loved the Mere/Bailey hug after the surgery.
+ Seeing Jackson again was great and I liked him selling his apartment to Jo, and the fact that they still talk.
+ I loved that Jo sold her shares in the hospital to Koracick. It means he'll probably be back for guest spots which makes me happy even if it doesn't Bailey. The whole scene was fun. I loved Bailey's reaction.
+ That moment when Maggie's dad objected because "your own sister isn't here" made me head tilt a little until Maggie said Amelia had to be on call. I love the three of them as sisters. I love how accepted it is. But it took me a little by surprise to hear Maggie's dad talking about Amelia as her sister. I wonder how he took Maggie going to Seattle to meet her bio-sister and ending up with another unrelated woman as a sister too.
+ I wish we'd seen a little more of Meredith and Girlie because that last scene where Girlie wakes up and is tearful to find Meredith sitting beside her was really lovely and I loved Meredith deciding to be Girlie's village. I feel like if they'd given this story more time it could have been one of those emotional Grey's storylines that are so great.
+ I guess that really was the extent of Meredith's reaction to DeLuca's death. ... I can't get over it. I didn't even love them as a couple but this feels kind of disrespectful, tbh. And they knew they were going to jump months of time which could have been useful to jump over Meredith's grief, you know if she'd had any. The fact that she didn't, that she didn't cry or grieve in anyway or have a moment of shared loss with anyone is ridiculous. It was a ridiculous writing choice that I am deeply annoyed by.
