Better Dig Two
Did the show know they were cancelled before shooting these final two episodes? Because this really felt like the show trying to wrap up all the plot stuff in one episode so they could concentrate on happy character stuff for the finale.
+ Nicole taking on the mantel and responsibilities of Guardian of the Ghost River Triangle and becoming the Angel Shield was - unexpected. Totally didn't see that coming. I like how it tied in to Nicole choosing earlier to save her townspeople and I absolutely buy it as a choice she would make to save Waverly. I think Nicole is a good choice for Guardian. But it felt a bit abrupt and honestly I'm not sure I buy Angel!Waverly's decision to make human Nicole the Angel Shield in her place. I feel like the show should have hit on her reluctance to take on her fated role in her previous scenes to build to it. I'm also not sure if human = angel makes sense as an equal exchange. Does this make Nicole immortal now? Will she get super-powers?
+ Angel!Waverly declaring that Wynonna ("champion, the only one who can wield the sword") had served enough made me aww. Her protecting Wynonna to the end makes me happy.
+ That last scene with everyone at the bar was really sweet. The teasing was cute. I'm glad that Doc is human again.
+ Wynonna refusing to face Doc, trusting that he would never shoot her in the back and choosing to save Rachel was a great scene.
+ Jeremy/Doc were great. I loved them leaning into each other as Jeremy reassuringly whispers into Doc's ear about how he knows Doc has changed. I loved Jeremy offering his life in place of Mercedes and Doc hugging in response.
+ "Legacy's a bitch." Honestly I really feel for Cleo. She got such a sucky deal and the fact that all she wanted was to be free is very sympathetic. Wynonna being pissed also makes sense and is sympathetic too. Honestly it's all a shame because I feel like Wynonna and Cleo really would have gotten along under other circumstances. I hope this is the last we see of Cleo if only so she can end the series free like she always wanted.
+ I was happy with where things went with Rachel and Wynonna. Cleo asked a fair question when she met Rachel's "She's my family" with 'are you hers?' and I'm pleased that we got an episode of Wynonna proving that Rachel was right to believe in her. Yeah she was going to abandon her at first but it took very little prodding and guilting from Billy to get her to choose Rachel and I liked her "I've got you" to Rachel and saving her twice.
+ Mercedes absolutely was meant to be a vampire but I was confused because for some reason I thought she already was a vampire or revenant or something. The only negative to Doc being human is we won't get him being Mercedes sire shenanigans.
+ It made me roll my eyes at a) how few people Nicole actually rescued (that truck should have been packed, there were like 10 people in there) and b) how they were all mission done while in the background there's still fighting happening. What about all those people!
+ Angel!Waverly turning Holt and all the Reapers into birds was honestly a nice end to that storyline. It was absolutely a better fate then their torturous trapped existence as Reapers and it also frees Billy from the torment of them in his head. Win all around.
