Bones 5x18 ‘The Predator in the Pool’

I was a little off put in the previous episode when they dealt with what happened in 5x16 by – not dealing with it. This episode gave us a lot of that awkwardness that I was expecting. It makes me wonder if there was some disorder in the episode order.

• Booth/Brennan were good. The one moment I really loved was during the last scene when Brennan is talking and Booth is sitting there with his head resting on his hand, smiling. I just thought – he is so in love with her.

• I loved Booth freaking out a bit about her going into the aquarium and being all ‘make Hodgin’s go in there and do it’ and him telling her – “Bones, you are the standard.”

• Angela’s virtual fish tank was beautiful and I want it.

“Well, you know who I think you belong with.” During this talk between them I was really hoping for Brennan to open up to Angela about what happened between her and Booth. It was the perfect opportunity.

• I really like Booth’s boss Andrew. I’ve liked him from his first appearance so it was nice to see him again (though to be honest I’d kind of forgotten about him.) I find him really amusing and I like how self-deprecating he is. I like that he’s a good guy and a good boss. I like how he genuinely appreciates Brennan, even with all her awkwardness, and I like that she seems to genuinely like him too. He had three lines in this episode I really liked.

- On criminals paying for their crimes via checks: “That’s not a good sign for law enforcement. That’s not a good sign for culture as a whole.” It amused me.

- Then in his effort to distract Booth he comes out with: “We should pool our money together and buy a buffalo ranch in Alberta.” ... um, what? Hee – so random. Plus a mention of Alberta!

- Then shortly after Booth turns down his presence at the meeting with the Russian mobster: “I truly hope you don’t end up being fed to sharks because your successes have done wonders for my career.” Considering how the Booth/mobster scene ended I have a feeling that it’s going to come back to bite Booth later.

“I believe that ‘play’ is Andrew’s code for sex. (pause) Is it okay for us to talk like this?” Seriously? No. Brennan is social-challenged but she isn’t an idiot.

• When Hodgin’s made his jaws quote I was surprised that Brennan didn’t recognise it and it made me think about how I’m also surprised that at this point the gang, or Booth at least, haven’t instituted movie/TV night to work on her pop culture.

• I liked Clark calling Hodgins on his attitude (which I found really unexpected.)

• Sweets made me laugh with – “Children are still forming their sense of ethics at that age. Like I said they’re basically sociopaths.” Funny, possibly true but really not the right time.

The Big Bang Theory 3x20 ‘The Spaghetti Catalyst’

• This episode gave us two different sides of Sheldon and his interactions with Penny and Leonard. The beginning of the episode was normal Sheldon trying in his own way to navigate the Penny/Leonard break-up. Then starting from the first Penny/Leonard scene this switched to Penny and Leonard as the parents of Sheldon, something they’ve done before this season, though now with the addition of them being ‘divorced’. It’s a totally separate type of interaction and doesn’t really fit with what we see in their interactions the rest of them time but I have to admit it I enjoyed it.

- I found the whole thing really funny from Leonard and Penny’s original conversation about taking him shopping and the Disneyland trip and then Penny and Sheldon’s return home. Penny ordering Sheldon to change and go to bed may have been a bit much but overall I found it all really funny. Despite finding the whole ‘Penny/Leonard as Sheldon’s parents’ thing funny I do prefer the normal interactions more.

• I loved the Penny/Sheldon interactions in the beginning of the episode – Sheldon being glad that they could remain friends, the fact that Sheldon was teasing Penny and she knew it was great (Bazinga!) because I didn’t get that he was teasing and I love that she knew him well enough to know, and I really loved Sheldon basically asking to join her for dinner. This is actually a really big thing – Sheldon was foregoing his usual routine in order to have spaghetti dinner with Penny. Sheldon!

• I loved getting to see Penny’s side of things during Sheldon’s knocking on her door for once.

• Sheldon’s “Go Team Leonard!” was hilarious.

• All the Raj/Leonard stuff was great too. Raj’s “Don’t flatter yourself dude.” made me laugh. Oh, Raj. He’s definitely not the Aquaman of the show.
