Nothing Lasts Forever
I'm actually really into the idea of a celestial war for who becomes the next God, especially if it starts to affect Earth. It's been set up to be a really big fight for Lucifer. From the retirement party we see that there are a lot of angels who are absolutely not supportive of him being God even with Amenadiel's support. In fact while everyone seems to love and respect Amenadiel I wonder if him turning down being God and throwing his support behind Lucifer won't cause some of the other angels to turn on him too and him having a nephilim child used against him as him currently having poor judgment? Honestly I'd assume Lucifer would have no chance but Remiel coming out in favour of him makes me wonder how many other angels absolutely hate Michael and resent his recent place close to God?
I loved the reveal that Michael's whole plan was causing God to self-actualise into retirement so he could take over. That was brilliant and sneaky. But God going to Earth to spend time with Lucifer (and Amenadiel) seems rather a misstep. Did he need it as a final push into proving that God was losing it? Because if Amenadiel had accepted or God had actually chosen Lucifer he would have been screwed. I like to think him finally getting a chance to mess with Lucifer caused him to come to Earth and God coming down wasn't part of his long-term plan. It makes me want this miscalculation to be what eventually take him down.
Lucifer finally getting acknowledgement from his father - an "I love you" and an "I'm very proud of the man you've become" - was a great moment.
I loved that Lucifer's first words after his father's confession of love/respect is to say that ‘Amenadiel might like to hear that too’. Awww! I find that so sweet.
I can't help thinking a lot of what a raw deal the other angels got. That neither of their parents bothered to say goodbye or give their love to anyone but Lucifer and Amenadiel is really harsh. I bet some of the others also have parental issues that could do with an affirming hug!
Dan's current zen-ness with life to the extent that the idea of Lucifer becoming God doesn't even faze him is - nice to see but a bit confusing. I still don't get how what Lucifer did changed everything so much for him, he was in such a dark place, and I really wish the show delved into it more. Was the realisation that he always tries his best and that's all he can realisticlly do because he can't control the would or others reactions really enough to kick him out of his understandable downward spiral? Plus I'm still not pleased with how little everyone was there for him and I still want it even if he's possibly better now. On the other hand, Lucifer as God vs God as God (aka the one who exploded him) has to feel like a step up for him so on that level I get it.
Chloe’s silent ‘oh my god’ when her mom flirts with God and that tiny moment of realisation afterwards was hilarious.
God and Ella’s scene was lovely and I loved him reassuring her that she shone brightly.
I've found myself confused this season about Ella's supposed darkness and not sold on it so the reveal of her intrusive thoughts and her self-disgust and dismay over them worked better than anything we've gotten thus far.
I love the idea of Maze as Queen of Hell.
Chloe quitting to support Lucifer’s job as God is certainly a choice.
I hope the fact that Lucifer killed one of his brothers comes up during the up coming fight.
God's retirement being to reunite with the Goddess and return with her to her new universe feels pretty appropriate. I liked it. I liked that Lucifer is the one who made it happen because he actually listened to what his father truly wanted. I even like that it was a scheme of Lucifer's that backfired on him because that also absolutely fits with how things go for him.
God leaving without putting in place a successor feels pretty in line with his actions up to this point. Of course he wouldn't even though this is certainly to end up in full out war. Even after learning that Michael self-actualised him into losing control. Dude. Leaving pointless confusion and strife with his last enigmatic smile is not a sign of changing.
