I liked it more than I was expecting based on reviews.
+ I knew going in that Frank was Alexander Pierce which definitely impacted how I viewed the movie, I think positively. I enjoyed watching Frank's reactions to certain situations, especially Frank and Elise's interactions with this in mind. It added a layer to them that worked for me. I loved Frank reacting to Elise and knowing it's Alexander. The dance was great. Plus I, in general, love identity shenanigans like this. So the relationship between the two ultimately worked for me which in turn made the film enjoyable.
+ The only issue I might have is Elise saying at the end that she loved Frank. She's known him for like 3 days. I'm not buying it. I'm choosing to interpret that as her saying that she could love him trying back to their previous conversation.
+ I loved the background of Elise being an undercover agent sent into Alexander's life who ended up torn between her job/duty and him. Frankly the background of their relationship feels like it could have been a movie in itself. It made them work even more for me.
+ That said I really wish that they had shown at some point Elise being something a little more than she seemed. Say, during the boat attack. Her knocking the minion into the canal felt in line with what a random person could do when it maybe should have been used to show that she's surprisingly competent at protecting herself. Basically if's she's Scotland Yard then I want her to show some physical competency.
+ The whole chase of Alexander by Scotland Yard and the extremes it went to seemed, well, extreme. Sure, 700+ million is a lot of money but the man power and snipers and getting other governments help so easily and quickly seems a bit much for unpaid taxes. But then I guess Acheson's obsession is a partial reason.
+ Everyone being enchanted by Elise's beauty and elegance was a background touch that I enjoyed.
