I liked it.
+ Xie Lian/Hua Cheng are excellent. I loved everything about them. I liked how much they genuinely just like each other. Hua Cheng's unwavering devotion to Xie Lian and his protectiveness of him is great. Their entire story of Hua Cheng being saved by Xie Lian then devoting his entire life around him, becoming a ghost lord (implied I think) for Xie Lian is absolutely up my alley. I like that Xie Lian is also protective and supportive in return.
- I loved him catching Xie Lian in the pit and the refusing to set him down because it was dirty to the point the he even fights while holding Xie Lian in his arms.
- I loved him tricking the merchants into praying to Xie Lian because he was annoyed that they laughed at 'General Hua's' fate.
- I love how Xie Lian finds everything San Lang does great - he's always so impressed by San Lang's knowledge, he was amused by him tricking the merchants, he was impressed by how many ghosts he'd killed in the pit, etc.
- I loved Hua Cheng likes it when Xie Lian calls him San Lang.
- I love that their 'first' meeting was Hua Cheng as a bridegroom escorting 'bride' Xie Lian though danger.
+ I loved Xie Lian casually trying to investigate the truth of who San Lang and that he actually did figure out the truth himself but that it didn't change his opinion of him or trust in him at all. Their little exchange with Xie Lian telling him that was great.
+ I loved Xie Lian's line about how he only has so much room for memory and he'd much rather remember enjoying food yesterday than being trampled to death hundreds of years ago. The reasoning behind Xie Lian's memory issues makes sense and I appreciate his set of priorities. I also loved that San Lang's response was to laugh.
+ I liked Banyue. I found her story interesting. I loved her slowly trapping the ghosts in the pit. I liked her relationship with Pei Su. (I loved his expression during the massacre when he found her hanging.) I loved her relationship with 'General Hua'. I liked that Xie Lian took her back to his shrine, really liked their talk outside it and found the way she moved her jar amusing.
