Jumanji: The Next Level
Aug. 22nd, 2021 08:26 pmI was a bit disappointed tbh. It was good... but not near as good as the first one.
+ The humour felt a lot more forced in this one.
+ Eddie and Milo's extreme not getting it got old very fast. I did enjoy a lot about Fridge and Martha's reactions to it though. I liked the story of Eddie and Milo reconnecting and the bickering was okay but also they were the weakest part of movie for me. Oh, and I did enjoy Milo's reaction to Bravestone's smoulder.
+ I... didn't really like Jack Black's Bethany in this movie. I enjoyed him as her so much in the previous movie that he was one of my favourite parts but in this one Bethany came off like a caricature.
+ I like that the friendships between the group are still strong even with Spencer having isolated himself.
+ I enjoyed the switching around of bodies and would have been up for even more of it. Fridge being stuck in Shelly was fun and I also enjoyed his limited time as Ruby.
+ I disliked Spencer returning to being Bravestone. I wish he'd stayed as Ming and found strength in being her and learnt that 'geeks with allergies' could be strong and awesome too. He literally risked his life because of his need to be Bravestone again and feel like the hero, and inadvertently risked all his friends too. It was a deeply stupid thing to do. So to go '... and he was right and belongs as Bravestone' seems like a weird direction for his character to go. It makes a lot more sense to me for him to actually learn a lesson here and grow by realising that actually he doesn't need to be Bravestone. This just seems obvious!
+ The moving bridge sequence with the mandrills was fun.
+ I really liked Bethany going to Alex for help and him returning to the game with her. I loved his expression when he saw her at his door and I loved him immediately looking around for her after they got out of the game and them smiling at each other.
+ Boo to Bethany not getting to fly! If they were going to make her a horse she and Seaplane should have flown in to rescue everyone from the mandrills. Duh!
+ Milo choosing to stay behind was the obvious direction when he revealed he was dying. I'm just a little surprised that Eddie didn't decide to stay behind too. And on the one hand, being a flying horse would be fun. But on the other, they needed to get their asses back to that lake and give him a new better body, are you kidding me. He had so many options!
