Episode 9
Dr. Mok is the 1980's serial killer, called it! His amusement at Gwang-ho's frustration (at being unable to claim reason for knowledge of the original crimes) really stuck out to me. He was practically gleeful over it. He absolutely knows who Gwang-ho is, right? He has to. I want to go back and rewatch all their scenes and pay closer attention to Mok's reactions to Gwang-ho. Did he recognise him immediately or did it take awhile to put it together? What does he think is going on because Gwang-ho's existence is pretty bizarre.
Then there's poor Sun-jae. This is going to be such a painful horror for him. Mok appears to be his closest and most trusted friend (and perhaps only one.) There is no way Mok doesn't know exactly who Sun-jae is. Did he seek Sun-jae out or was their first meeting happenstance? I feel so bad for him.
Dr. Mok is obviously the one to killer 2016!Gwang-ho and I'm very curious about how Dr. Mok even came to his attention.
I thought perhaps Dr. Mok/original killer and Ho-young were working together, that perhaps the original one was mentoring Ho-young, but age-wise I think Dr. Mok would have been close to the same age as Ho-young so were they friends back then? Ho-young recreating one of Dr. Mok's murders and flashing back to it indicates he was probably there when it was committed but was he an accomplice or a voyeur? Mok is currently very disdainful about Ho-young and his murders and really doesn't like being compared to him. Lots of interesting questions still left unanswered.
I loved that it was Sun-jae who dragged Gwang-ho out of his grief-stricken fugue. I think it had to be him because Sung-shik would have been too gentle and considerate and no one else would have been able to get through to him. Sun-jae was the perfect amount tough love with a base or compassion.
I loved that little moment of shared humour between Gwang-ho and Sung-shik over the crime scenes almost making the big dipper.
I liked the contrast between how comfortable Gwang-ho was at Jae-yi's house (he was lounging) to how uncomfortable Sun-jae was.
I love that Sun-jae had already begun the process to find Yeon-ho when Gwang-ho asked him for just that advice. It was such an understated but speaking moment about how far their relationship has come and how much Sun-jae cares about him.
Sun-jae grasping at Gwang-ho's pants as he left in a 'trying not to show how desperate he is not to be alone with Jae-yi' was a very cute background note. I love that Gwang-ho left specifically to facilitate their growing romance. Seriously can't wait till the truth comes out. I hope it doesn't make Gwang-ho do a 180.
I'm annoyed by Sun-jae not telling Jae-yi that the serial killer they're hunting threatened to murder her. Telling her to be safe is not good enough.
Well, that attempt to capture Ho-young was a miserable failure and it really shouldn't have been. Was it a really short period of time between them finding his hideout and his arrival and thus the cops we see at the end of the chase were just arriving?
