This episode had some good stuff but made a bunch of choices that left me really frustrated.

+ I loved Sun-jae actually telling Gwang-ho "I’m just sad, that’s all" about him leaving. Actually being honest about his feelings and opening up? This is huge for Sun-jae. How far they've come.

+ I loved Jae-yi taking her whistle with her for luck/safety, using it to call for help and Gwang-ho being the one to hear her and come to her rescue, and then Gwang-ho figuring out she's Yeon-ho from seeing the whistle. He was in time and actually managed to save one of the victims and it's his daughter! That was all excellent. I love how the whistle came back into play.

+ I liked Gwang-ho, when faced with helping an unconscious Jae-yi or chasing after Ho-young, choosing Jae-yi and how that ties back to his furious words to her about how being a detective isn't about catching criminals but about saving people.

+ Jae-yi using herself as bait and not informing the police is a level of dumb I can't deal with. Dear god. It is the dumbest thing this show has done. How exactly does she expect to capture Ho-young with this great plan if there's no one there to stop him from killing her or capture him afterwards? Did she assume the police would see the interview and understand what she was doing? At the very least she should have left Sun-jae a message he missed because his phone off for the raid. But even with that it's all so dumb that it's mind-boggling and it really affected my enjoyment of the episode, tbh. And it actually is a clever plan - if the police had been involved. Yeesh.

I really wish the set up to this played out differently because the pieces are great. I actually loved Jae-yi in danger, blowing her whistle and being saved by Gwang-ho, while at the same time as the reveal of her parentage coming out. It's very dramatic! But them making Jae-yi look like an idiot to get there was deeply frustrating. Jae-yi does things her own way but she's smart. It made this all so frustrating.

+ Another terrible and frustrating choice: Sun-jae stopping to take a phone call from his friend researching Yeon-ho. WTH? There is no way he would pause in his desperate search for Jae-yi, a woman 'precious' to him who is currently being stalked and maybe murdered by a serial killer, to take a phone call. Looking at the number to see if it's her calling, sure. Answering literally anyone who is not her? No fucking way. That is bullshit. Presumably to keep him back so it could be Gwang-ho to rescue her but that could have been achieved by having them split up. I guess also to let him in on the Yeon-ho/Jae-yi connection and spell it out for the viewers but, damn, that should have been done better.

+ Also this isn't really a complaint and is very minor but Jae-yi dressing up in a short skirt to fit the profile makes sense but also feels pretty unnecessary. If she managed to lure Ho-young out to the reservoir based on her interview I really don't think he's going to leave if he sees she's not wearing a skirt.

+ Dr. Mok was really pushing the theory of two killers and it's probably what is going to get him caught. He has the perfect alibi in Ho-young but he can't stand this idea of Ho-young getting credit for his own kills. Is it a compulsion or arrogance? Is his contempt to the inferior Ho-young just that great?

+ Dr. Mok seemed pretty intrigued by Jae-yi. Was him saving her life by sending the police after her more about saving her or more about them finally catching the inferior killer Ho-young?

+ I'm now very curious about why Dr. Mok stopped killing. He restarted after they found the foot of the fifth victim and he realised she'd survived. And perhaps because, with Gwang-ho's arrival, they were connecting his murders to the inferior copycat murders of Ho-young. But after knocking Gwang-ho out in the tunnel why would he stop? The fact that he starts killing again with six dots shows he didn't have hidden kills during those 30 years. I did wonder if the killer travelled with Gwang-ho into the future but his friendship with Sun-jae and established place as a coroner would indicate not. Hmm.

+ I wish the whistle had been personalised - with Gwang-ho's name, a symbol, something. Gwang-ho seeing the whistle and making the connection makes sense because humans see connections in coincidences. But there are probably millions of whistles just like that one that exist in South Korea.
