Kano worked for me. I thought he was great. I liked him starting sort of on the good guys side and loved his subsequent betrayal. I loved his antagonistic relationship with Sonya and how that played out through the movie and the final fight between them. I loved Sonya ending up with his mark.
I liked the final confrontation between Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Cole, and Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion. That all worked for me. I liked the centuries long beef between Bi-Han and Hanzo. I liked the reveal that Hanzo was Scorpion, created in 'Hell'. I liked the team up to defeat Sub-zero and that Hanzo killed him in the end. I liked Hanzo seeing his child and wife in Cole's family.
I think the script needed another go over. The events didn’t really flow together, it was like here’s one scene, now let’s go here.
I realise there was the prophecy of 'one of Hanzo's bloodline' leading the fighters but Cole taking charge and convincing everyone they could still fight and sending them out felt so false to me. Not earned at all.
Raiden was kind of useless in a way I don’t think he needed to be. Considering that all the fighters except 3 having been killed (and two of the survivors are actually people who killed the original mark) I feel like Team Earth failed their job to protect and collect the fighters. I didn't really get the sense of urgency on this from them.
Sonya and Jax having put basically everything together themselves and them running around trying to save the fighters felt a little random so both these issues could have been solved simply by having Jax (and Sonya) already recruited by Liu Kang and working for Raiden to find the others.
Raiden lightening away everyone at the end but leaving Cole for last was dumb. Especially considering that he was right there in front of Shang Tsung. He should have been the first gone!
How that whole confrontation that ended with Kung Lao’s death played out didn't entirely work for me. I think the choreography was off so it didn't come off as real but instead felt staged.
