Shadow and Bone Episodes 1 & 2 Thoughts

iariaI'm enjoying it.
+ I like the casting overall.
+ I loved the choice to make Alina and Mal half-Shu. I honestly think that was a brilliant choice.
+ I liked the bond between Alina and Mal and this new heritage shared makes their isolation and 'us vs them' attitude during childhood, and the way it has stretched into adulthood, very understandable.
+ I wasn't sold on the idea of them adding the Six of Crows characters to the series and in the first episode the Ketterdam sections felt very disconnected but I really liked how they tied it in by the end. I love how this adds to the tension of Alina now being hunted/in danger.
+ Ben Barnes as the Darkling is A+ casting. I loved his scenes with Alina. I loved the way he said "You are not alone" and her reaction.
+ I liked the Cut and effects with the shadows.
+ Alina having a short cry once alone but then immediately taking stock of her rooms and then tracking down a weapon was great.
+ I loved the moment where the Darkling revealing Alina's power. It being shown as a beam of light looked visually impressive and also added to sense of danger to her. (Everyone definitely knows about her now.)
+ I liked the show adding in Mal meeting/flirting with Zola and Mal taking part in fights right from the beginning.
+ Wow, Alina burning the maps really messed things up. At the very least she got her team killed.
