The Myth of the Ensnared Hunter

+ Everything with Nancy and Ryan was lovely. I really loved Ryan's little wave at Nancy when she arrived (so cute) and his sooo casual attempt at eavesdropping (and Nancy's subsequent annoyance) amused me. I loved Ryan's enthusiasm at getting to go on a supernatural adventure with Nancy. Their bonding session in the woods and talking about their pasts made me aww. I liked their team-up in searching the house. I loved Ryan being all 'whoa no to the immediate vandalism' and Nancy kind of pouting about it cause it's how she works, dad, heh. Oh, also, Nancy distracting Ryan by bring up the chore wheel made me lol. I hope that continues to be a reoccurring background joke.

+ I really felt bad for Amanda. She was put in such a hard place. She's probably use to that with her dad, who is rather terrible (and manipulative as fuck!), but who is also her dad and the only adult who was there for her as a kid. But she knows what happened to Ace wasn't fair even if a part of her also blames him for putting himself in that position and seems clearly frustrated and angry with him.

(It's interesting that at the beginning of the season Ace said he was helping Mr. Bobbsey because Amanda asked him to look out for him, and yet here she seems genuinely confused, and even dismayed, that he involved himself in her dad's life. Based on how this episode played out I think Amanda would have warned him off if she knew and this was Ace trying to be a stand-up guy.)

I really loved that she tracked down her dad knowing that Ace would follow her with the police, thus keeping her hands (mostly) clean with her dad. It would clear Ace while also protect her dad from going on the run from the police. That a part of her also desperately wished that Ace wouldn't do that, that he would trust/believe in her, and being deeply disappointed with him when he did made complete emotional sense. As did her choosing to break-up with him.

+ All that said I also did sympathize with Ace and the choice he made. He was in serious legal trouble and Mr. Bobbsey is terrible and Amanda said straight-out that she wouldn't help him. Although it really did highlight the lack of trust between them vs between Ace and Nancy/the Drew Crew.

+ I loved Amanda giving Ace her dad's storage locker key for George, to pay off her brother's debt for being willing to let her die.

+ I'm not a huge fan of Bess and her current romantic direction tbh. It felt so strange for Bess to be talking so much around Odette's existence (in dis-tangling her from George) but with literally no hint of her past romantic feelings, all while spending the episode panicking about her current hook-up. And by 'past romantic feelings' I mean a couple weeks ago. It came off very weird to me. It's like Bess saying goodbye erased their relationship from her memory. Honestly this seems to be very much a thing with Bess - see how Lisbeth disappeared.

On the other hand, I did love George being so supportive and encouraging. I like that Bess opened up to her. Everyone catching her make-out on the security camera and all the reactions was fun.

+ I was a little annoyed with both 'fights' in the last episode but I really liked Nick and George's make-up. I thought they approached it in a very mature way and were sweet.

I also thought Thom's behaviour towards Ace was a lot more understandable here. He's clearly not happy about with himself for going off on Ace but is still unwilling to straight up apologise and is only able show his regret by talking about his feelings as Ace's mom's. It made me roll my eyes but also seemed super believable for that type a character. I like that they're making tentative steps to reconciliation even if they're not ready to talk it out yet.

On the other hand, I continue to be annoyed by Ace's mom and just how - timid and uninvolved she appears to be. She's barely given any attention or personality. Everything is about Thom and Ace's relationship with him, and she's more of a prop.

+ I think Hannah freeing the black hat killer was as part of a Women in White failsafe if the barrier around the town ever went down. It's not a coincidence she did it right then. I think he was supposed to be a weapon against Temperance but that she somehow made me an ally/minion (maybe via the doll).

+ So Hannah is dead, yes/yes? I hope not but it doesn't look good for her. ... I wonder if she could be the phantom knocker at Nancy's house and who moved the papers during Bess/Addie's hook-up? Could she be a ghost but still trying to help/communicate with them?

+ I wonder if Nancy and Ryan's survival is down to the obvious point that they are both Hudsons? Would Nick have been killed if he'd gone?

+ I wonder if the fact that the tunnels come out at the Historical Society suggests that perhaps they had larger containment cages for supernatural creatures along with the containment room for supernatural objects? Are there more cages down there?

+ "You can keep each other out of trouble." That is literally the worst idea Nick has ever had. I mean really, Nick, really? Does that seem likely to you?

+ I found Nancy filling Ryan in by calling Temperance "my great aunt" strange considering that she's Ryan's aunt too. I wonder if the show is ever going to do anything with them? Or even acknowledge they're family.

+ I was annoyed with the priest being so cryptic with them about the soul detangler. Why not tell them why it's such a horrible thing instead of going 'trust me'. They are very clearly not going to trust you on this!
