Doctor Who: Flux 13x01 Thoughts

Huh. Okay.
That was a lot and I am very confused but I think I'm supposed to be confused, so that's alright? A part of me feels like I can't judge anything yet because it's so clearly only the first part of a story. But as the first part it's a bit of a mess. There was so much jumping around and cuts between characters that it really affected the pacing.
+ I am very into the mystery about whatever the hell is going on with the TARDIS. The many appearing doors is actually kind of cool but also worrying and disturbing.
+ The opening scene was such classic Doctor. I loved her "I can't help feeling like some of this is my fault." and Yaz's exasperation with her. I loved "I love not being ready" too. Their escape was silly but fun. I loved the Doctor's failure to get the handcuffs off and even trying a Scottish accent.
+ The Lupari are neat. I rather love the idea of a species bond and that each person has a pair bond with a dog-like alien. I love the twist that while it may be a deep seated instinct/need to protect their (soul-bonded essentially?) human that doesn't mean they have to like them. I need Dan and his Karvanista to become best friends before the end. However, all that said, where the heck have the Lupari been before this? The Earth/humanity has been almost destroyed so many times! If they're individually bonded to a specific human why has none ever shown up to rescue their human from death?
+ I enjoyed Yaz having become Doctor-lite, as some long-term Companions become. Yaz co-piloting the TARDIS was great.
+ I like Dan okay so far. I liked that he figured out Karvanista wouldn't hurt him.
+ It was nice to see the weeping angels back in their initial Blink form. Watching one stalking Claire, and the fact that she knew exactly what it was, made for a very tense scene.
+ Compulsion seems to be a theme of the episode - Claire not going home and finding the Doctor instead, maybe Mr. Williamson's excavation of the tunnels, and of course the Lupari compulsion to protect their human pair-bonds. I'm curious if/where the show is going with it and how it might tie into the Doctor.
+ There were a lot of new people introduced without any connection or understanding of the roles they might play which definitely added to the overall confusion.
+ When Swarm revealing to the Doctor that he was her original nemesis/mortal enemy, who had fought across time and space against her, all I could think is how very offended and upset the Master is going to be. How dare someone try to take his place! I don't know if the Master is going to be in this season but it would be such a shame if he wasn't.
