The Gambit of the Tangled Souls

It was lovely to have Nancy and Bess doing the ritual to save George and the moments between the three of them were great. I loved Nancy grabbing and holding George's hand when they started the ritual. I loved Bess immediately running over to George when she woke despite still grieving and that one of the first few things George said was over her concern for Bess.

Bess running with Odette's soul stone and leaving George so close to death was absolutely a shitty thing to do but honestly I did feel for her and I get why she couldn't do it so easily and had to work through her emotions first, especially since she apparently was keeping hope alive Odette could be saved too. So, like Nancy, I don't hold it too against her.

I loved Nancy and Bess's heart-to-hearts. Nancy's compassion and gentle pushing of Bess to do what Bess knew she had to do, Bess opening up so completely about her feelings, Nancy assuring her that no one else needed to know about Bess almost running away. They were wonderful.

"I'm going to text the dads" is utterly delightful. I am fine if they are known as this forevermore. I want all of the Drew Crew to call them that.

I think the show really dropped the ball with Bess and her relationships this season. I actually really liked what they did with Bess/Odette in this episode. Her quiet "Either of you?" was so sad, her expression when Odette came out for a second before being subsumed again, the gentle way she cradled her soul stone, the fact that she took off with her - all worked to make Bess's grief and attachment believable. But the completely lack of any of that in the proceeding 5 episodes did a lot to undermine it. I wish so much we could have seen some of that hope and grief and desire during the rest of the season. It didn't have to be all doom-and-gloom and Bess still trying to move on would have worked but we really needed to see how Odette's loss was affecting Bess. So, good end, terrible lead up.

I actually really like that while Odette does come out for a second she and Bess don't actually get a goodbye. It worked a lot better for me this way.

I had an initial 'no don't!' reaction to them breaking Odette's soul stone. My first thought was to wonder if it could destroy her soul but that possibility didn't even seem to occur to the characters.

I was surprised that they didn't draw this out longer. I was half expecting them to put the wrong person in the body (I thought the blue stone would be George, it looked brighter to me!) or for one of the stones to get lost.

"Spending time with Nancy rubs off on you. She's so passionate about everything, it makes you want to be a better person." - Ryan. I loved this and I loved Ace thoughtfully agreeing with him.

Teenage dads were fun. Nancy and Ace reacting to them was even funner. I loved Nancy's yelled 'DAD!' at Carson. I wish this episode had been more about the Drew Crew having to handle/help the dads so we could have had the full range of reactions.

Ace apologising to his mom after spending the dad dealing with the teenage dads was great.

I loved Ryan's little side-swipe at Carson with "he over-breaks", heh. Despite that reason and the others (car faster, moral support) I think it's pretty clear that Ryan just wants to be involved.

Everyone leaving Nick out of the loop, when it could have led to George's death, was infuriating. Especially when the episode started with them kind of annoyingly keeping him in the loop in what felt like a pointed way.

The, missing since the civil war, soul-splitter just happening to be not only in town but in the Bobbsey storage locker was a little too much of a coincidence.
