Word of Honor Thoughts

I'm enjoying it.
+ Really it's all about Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu, I love them so much. I love how prickly Zishu is and how that only amuses Kexing, that he isn't put off by Zishu's constant rejection in any way. Kexing's fascination with Zishu and admiration is great but it's his shameless and unrestrained flirting that delights me. Calling him "my Ah Xu" is one thing but then you get lines like: "Xu, you are more and more to my taste" and "how could I not be satisfied with you?" and "As long as you don't hide your handsome face, you won't ruin my view." Yeesh, Kexing maybe reel in that thirst a bit! (Never do that)
I love how their fights often feel like foreplay more than actual fighting. I loved Zishu literally rolling his eyes at Kexing's poor me act (lol) and I loved a couple episodes later Zishu playing his own 'oh poor sick me' act to get Kexing to find food and Kexing's amusement over it. Zishu slowly lowering his defenses is great fun to watch. I loved that moment in ep 6 when Kexing splashing Zishu with water and Zishu was all 'childish' and serious - and then splashed Kexing back. So cute.
I loved that Kexing played the flute all night so Zishu could sleep (and that it was the best sleep he'd had in a long time.) I loved Kexing sucking the poison out of the wound on Zishu's shoulder.
+ Wen Kexing is my favourite character. He's a delight. I love his attitude, honestly I love everything about him. Things like him encouraging Chengling to be resolute and to continue to ask Zishu to be his Master was a kindness but also such a instigator move and he took glee in it.
+ Is Wen Kexing the red-robed leader of the Ghost Valley? The way he grabbed the Beggar Gang Leader's neck and killed him was very reminiscent of the way the thief was killed by the Ghost Valley leader in the first episode. The red-robed leader liked nuts. The complete change in Kexing from his normal amiable attitude to something much darker, including the way his voice changed, was also interesting. The way they both checked their fingers. Then there's Xiang interacting with Lovelace.
He totally is isn't he? ... okay I went and rewatch that scene and he absolutely is. That really changes a lot of things! He's the one who ordered (led?) the attack on Chengling's family and had them tortured/murdered. He is, in fact, behind most of the murders! I kind of love it. He asks Zishu at one point if he won't be afraid that he'll be in trouble and Zishu replies with "You're already a trouble" He's kind of got his number already but I don't think he realises how right he is. I can't wait for that reveal!
+ I loved the fight with the Beggar Gang in episode 4. It was so much fun. Wen Xexing deciding to take Zishu's "keep an eye on him" literally and only watching the gang Leader chase Chengling around the table amused me. Him throwing in some flirting with Zishu and then trying to force Zishu to ask for his help amused me. He's such a little shit. Though of course when Zishu has an pain attack and appears in danger he immediately acts to save him. Meanwhile Zishu was kicking ass and Chengling's incredulous disgusted look when Kexing casually offered him a nut was hilarious. Poor kid.
+ I love the costuming. It's stunning. Everyone looks so beautiful. In general it's a beautiful show to watch. Love the fight scenes, the movement in them.
+ I'm curious about the past connection between Kexing and Zishu. Kexing was so quietly happy to get confirmation that 'Ah Wu' was Zishu. Was Kexing the young boy from Zishu's hallucination flashback? Were they childhood friends maybe?
+ It was a little weird when we got Zishu's original face back after five episodes of the disguise face.
+ Chengling is a sweetie and I feel for him. I love his relationship with Zishu.
+ I like Xiang. She's childish and can be inconsiderate (and she was actively mean to Chengling to get him to eat) but she shows a core of kindness. Her saving women in need is now very much a thing for her and I appreciate it.
+ They are very minor characters but I find myself worried about Yun Cai and Hong Lu's continued well being. That story about the dog and the way Kexing put their well-being into Xiang's hands makes me think it isn't going to end well for them.
+ The painted on beard on the disguise face was so very terrible.
+ Why were they cleaning the rabbits by literally holding them in the river and rubbing their fur??! That's not how you clean rabbits! They didn't get a bit dirty and need a bath, lol.
I'm enjoying it.
