Word of Honor Thoughts
Dec. 28th, 2021 11:33 pmEpisode 31
+ There was so much happening here. I was confused so at the beginning and ended up wondering if I'd somehow missed an episode. I can understand why the show skipped a bunch of scenes, and assume that we'll get flashbacks to them, but I'm not a fan of this approach. We'd better get those flashbacks - especially for Chengling's reaction to learning Kexing's true identity and seeing how the Kexing/Xie Wang alliance began. With the latter especially it's very hard to judge this alliance when we don't even know how it started and the terms of it. Are they going to immediately try and stab each other in the back? I hope not because I love them both and it would make me so sad.
+ Kexing showing up to save Zishu in his full Leader of Ghost Valley look was excellent. Loved it. He looked so good (red is his colour) and it was wonderfully dramatic. The red eyeliner was very hot but also kind of hilarious to me that he took the time to get all dressed up. His ghosts showing up to surround the Window of Heaven soldiers was great.
+ I loved Kexing kneeling to Zishu and accepting his place as the second disciple of Four Seasons Manor, of his place as Zishu's junior, and Zishu's smile at it. Beautiful moment.
+ I loved Zishu not being surprised by the rescue because he knew that Kexing would rescue him. Their smiles. Kexing brushing Zishu's hair and then using his own hair pin in Zishu's hair. ♥ Are they basically engaged now?
+ Zishu's quiet joy at having 19 disciples for Four Seasons Manor was lovely.
+ Weining being upset at what was happening in his sect and choosing to elope with Xiang was wonderful. Her gleeful pride at it later was delightful. They are so adorable.
+ It was something hearing from Kexing his whole initial plan - how filled with rage he was, how he only cared for vengeance, how he set off this destructive plan to basically burn down everything with no care for his own fate or for any supposed innocents (that he didn't even believe existed) - and then how Zishu changed that all for him. When he was explaining it to Fumeng we see a bit of Crazy Wen again and it contrasts so hard with who he is now. This episode felt like a huge step on Kexing's part in rejecting not only that plan but also that path. He chose Zishu at the beginning of the episode when he knelt and accepted him as his senior and with his talk with Fumeng we see his decision to let go of the cage of his hatred and choose to be human. It was wonderful to see. He's come so far!
+ While I'm feeling hopeful for Kexing I feel like Fumeng's decision not to let go of her anger towards Zhao Jing is going to lead to only badness for her which makes me sad. Let all of the Unfaithful ghosts live and be happy!
+ It occurs to me that there are so many people that Zhao Jing has betrayed and hurt that I don't even know who I want to kill him in the end. Kexing? Fumeng? Xie Wang? IDK!
+ Kexing's scene with Luo Fumeng was lovely. Her taking up the comb so easily as if it was something she'd done many times before. Her regret and sadness at not being there for him after she saved his life and him telling her that he's always remembered her kindness. Her worry for him. I still wish we'd seen more of them.
+ I really appreciate that Kexing had a plan in place to save Luo Fumeng, Liu Qianqiao and the entire Department of the Unfaithful. He's never really seemed to care about any of the ghosts, though we've heard he was kind to the Unfaithful, and it's something that's bothered me. It was nice that he did give thought to protecting them. That he was being a true leader for them. I'm also happy about it for all those ghosts that their loyalty was met with care in the end and for Xiang who cares about them so much.
+ I'm a little surprised that having two blades shoved through your chest (and then pulled out) wasn't a lot more damaging. They're blades! In his chest!
