Episode 34

+ I am very much enjoying the angst of everyone celebrating while Zishu sits there knowing he's only got a couple days left to live. That shot of him when Kexing said "faking death is a risky move" ouch. Just throughout the entire episode all the reaction shots of Zishu struggling with the knowledge that his time is almost over as everyone around him is happy and making plans.

Drunk Kexing stumbling into Zishu's room to gush about all the ways he's happy and filled with hope was so painful. Kexing hugging Zishu around the waist (!) and clinging to him, telling him "I never felt so carefree and delighted" D: Confessing that his death was part of his 'ruin the world' plan until Zishu. Zishu who made him want to live, who made him finally able to face his past as long as he was with him. It so sad.

I keep thinking about all the talk of punishment during the dinner where everyone only sees it as about the lie but Zishu knows that the greatest punishment is already happened and Kexing simply doesn't know it yet. ): The way Kexing keeps looking at Zishu during the dinner, so worried through the triumph, and knowing the heartbreak he doesn't realise is coming - ouch.

+ I loved that little moment where Zishu gently brushes Kexing's hair back.

+ The one of a kind red string bracelets feel like foreshadowing. "It's said if lovers are tied by it they will meet in all lifetimes." I can already see her and Weining giving them to Ah Xu and Lao Wen if they don't actually find a way to save him.

+ Maybe my favourite scene: I love so much that when Kexing proved unreceptive to letting Weining's Sect in for the wedding she immediately ran to ask Zishu. LOL. One parent says no, so go to parent two. And it worked because Zishu does side with her and convinces Kexing (as expected because he might not being ruler of Ghost Valley but he is the leader's husband, lol). Kexing grumpily stomping off to sit on his throne and sulk amused the crap out of me. Perfect end to that scene.

+ Xiang's expression that the episode ends on was amazing and basically 100% distilled Xiang. I can't stop laughing.

+ Kexing/Xiang are so delightful. This exchange:

Kexing: What a surprise! I have not imagined one day you would feel ashamed. (lol)
Xiang: What a coincidence, same here. I have never seen someone both obedient and timid as he is now. (lol)

And then the little fan head-smack. They are so adorable. I loved him going all out for her dowry. I loved him promising to sneak out to visit her.

+ "She is beyond my discipline." - Weining. LOL, yeah I'm sure everyone knows this within the first minute of meeting them.

+ I loved Chengling offering to backup Weining - he's such a little brat, lol.

+ Xiang wanting to stay with Kexing was so sweet, and when he says married girls aren't supposed to stay with their parents (awww!) she immediately says she won't get married than. (Poor Weining is so worried lol)

+ The Fumeng/Xiang/Qianqiao was really lovely and bittersweet. It again made me wish we'd seen more of the relationships between them. Fumeng giving Xiang the hairpins given to her by her master was wonderful. Her refusing to put them in, or escort Xiang or even be at the wedding because she was worried her bad luck would affect Xiang and her future was sad and bittersweet.

+ I loved Qiangqiao's decision to stay with Fumeng for the rest of her lifetime. Yes, this is how it should be.

+ Wow, that whole Xie Wang/Zhao Jing scene was amazing. Xie Wang's hurt and furious monologue was so good. I loved him tearfully telling Jing that "you failed me". Then that final promise to Jing as Xie'er hugs him, and Jing cries and then lightly leans into him. I can't even. I love everything about this.

+ Okay, the above was a lie because - oh, Xie'er, no. Whatever you're planning don't do it. Take the win! Live and find happiness! I'm so worried now.

+ I liked that all through the celebratory dinner Chengling was watching Zishu.

+ I appreciate that with all his anger and hurt, Zishu was able to let go of it enough to lighten the mood.

+ Shen Shen's explanation for Kexing's secret keeping made no sense but it was nice enough that he tried to defend him. I think the right answer is definitely Wu Xi's explanation that he told Kexing that Zishu's wound was tricky and he could not fight. Kexing knew that Zishu would refuse to stay out of it. He was doing as he always does - trying to protect him - which makes this whole tragedy all the worse because it (will maybe) be what leads to his death. Ouch all around. (But seriously someone needed to tell Zishu fucking immediately. Why was no one waiting at Zishu's bedside to tell him the truth?? Honestly.)

+ I loved Zishu telling both of them to sit down and stay out of it, heh.

+ Prince Qi said before that Zishu can't ask for help and we see that here so much when he's literally dying and isn't telling anyone. I want to shake him! Tell them all, give them the chance and time to at least try and save you.

+ The ghosts calling Zishu Uncle Zhou is great.
