iariaEpisode 37 - Epilogue
I had such a huge smile on my face while watching this.
I was sure that both had survived but it sure is nice to get confirmation. It was beautiful.
+ One thing that really sticks out to me is that when Kexing walks out Zishu just stares at him - as if awed to see him there - but while to the audience this is a surprise and a joyful moment, Zishu knows Kexing is alive. He (presumably) saved him and they live together. Yet this is simply how Zishu looks at Kexing, and how Kexing stares back - as if the other is the only thing they need, as if they can't stop staring at each other, that even looking at the other leaves them enthralled - because they are that in love. ♥
+ "Those two have fought their whole lives. When two gods fight, who knows when it will end." Does this mean then that they've become immortal like Baiyi? ♥ This delights me. They were both so lost in the beginning but then found the belonging and home they needed in each other. Them getting to spend centuries together, fighting and loving and living together, is the best end they could have gotten and I am so happy.
+ Getting to see it for longer - the white hair is a good look for Kexing. I like it.
+ I love that Zishu and Kexing are both still teaching. It's something I felt both enjoyed greatly, Zishu in particular, and I'm happy it's something they got to keep in their lives.
+ Since clearly people can visit them I am sure that Chengling and his family (and Baiyi and Bei Yuan/Wu Xi, and all Zishu's desperately loyal disciples) visit them often. I like the idea that they continued to train Chengling.
+ In retrospect Chengling's home in the final scene of the last episode was at the base of mountains unlike anywhere else we've seen him live before. Did he create a new sect at the base of Zishu and Kexing's mountain home? Knowing that they're alive, and that people can visit them there, is no way Chengling wouldn't have found them. It's such a delightful thought and makes me a little teary-eyed so I'm choosing to believe this is exactly what happened.
+ My other happy thought: Wenzhou continue to be their beautiful immortal selves with occasional visits to the wider world and one day in the future (a hundred years, a thousand, whatever) they come across Xiang and Weining reborn, happily together and running a shop. Oh, wait, even better - they find little Xiang, once again sadly orphaned, and Kexing gets to raise her in a much happier way and then one day she meets up with Weining and they fall in love again. (OR, every couple centuries Xiang/Weining are reborn and find each other, and always in the background Wenzhou watch over them and/or are occasionally are a part of their lives.) Look, Xiang and Weining had the bracelets so THEY WILL find each other again, and since Wenzhou are immortal THEY WILL also find them again.
+ While they're no longer confined to the Armoury I do wonder if they are confined to the mountain. Is this a Baiyi situation where if they leave they will slowly lose their immortality?
+ I kept wondering if we were supposed to know the little boy or, even more so, the father. He looks familiar but I can't place him.
