Hello Losers
Meh.
This honestly didn't seem like a series finale to me and overall I was left feeling dissatisfied. The pacing once again felt off and the ending rushed. It was a bummer way to end the series especially since I had enjoyed these last couple episodes.
+ I was expecting there to be a good chance that Eve, Villanelle or both of them would die but the way this played out just - MEH. I didn't like it. It was so rushed.
+ Of course that's supposing that Villanelle is really dead. I think there is absolutely room to believe that Villanelle survives. I mean a huge plot point this season was Carolyn 'killing' Johann in the water only for him to miraculously survive. There was also that little "i owe you a dare" exchange between Carolyn and Villanelle that was interesting. But while I like the idea she survived where the show chose to end leaves that only as speculation.
+ In the end we aren't given any explanation for how Eve and Villanelle went from the bridge scene in 3x08 to where they were in 4x01 and that just doesn't work for me. Having seen now how their relationship played out and where it ended that inexplicable shift in their relationship feels like such a waste. It feels pointless and wheel-turning.
+ I hate the choice to have Eve dancing at the wedding while Villanelle murdered all of The 12. What a weird choice. I don't get it. I'm fine with them not showing who The 12 were because frankly who cares. Unless it was going to be some surprised reveal it doesn't really matter. But to purposefully not have Eve a part of it, the hell? This has been her purpose for how long? And she chose to dance instead? Flabbergasted.
+ I did enjoy Eve/Villanelle on their trip out of Scotland. I loved Eve's very Eve-like declaration of (essentially) love - "I need you Villanelle." - and Villanelle's very Villanelle-like response. Them laughing while peeing together amused me. And then them finally kissing and the making out while walking back to the RV, and how much joy they were finding in each other was great.
+ Villanelle tracing the bullet scar she left on Eve was great but what a missed opportunity to have Eve turn around and return the favour by tracing Villanelle's stab scar.
+ I was 100% expecting Villanelle to save Eve from Gunn so Eve doing it herself was excellent. ...and then she left Gunn alive, ran away and scaled a tree LOLOL, oh Eve. I admit I was facepalming a bit. But! Then she dropped onto Gunn and used her new skills to hold her down and then poked out her eyes! With her fingers!
+ I love Carolyn's audacity in walking back into England, after turning traitor (!) to Russia, with no shame and taking control out of sheer personality. I mean Hugo was the one sent to deal with her so it's no surprise she stream-rolled over him with calm ease but still. It's my favourite thing about her.
+ Would orchestrating the death of an assassin (even one such as Villanelle) really be enough to get Carolyn reinstated even after turning traitor to Russia? I feel deeply skeptical.
+ I was very pleased that Pam chose to walk away from Carolyn and her offer.
+ I don't know much about Tarot but I do know that the Death card does not in fact mean the person is going to die, so that annoyed me.
+ After Irina's phone call I was really expecting her to show up. I was worried it would lead to Villanelle's death, or Eve in the crossfire, but honestly I probably would have enjoyed that a lot more.
+ So... who did kill Kenny? Eve accused Carolyn of knowing all along but I feel like I missed something. She's always partially blamed herself, Konstantin maybe killed him on purpose or not but she was searching for who ordered it, no? And I still have no idea who that was. Maybe Eve's point is that it doesn't matter in the end?
