Doctor Who 13x07 & 13x08 Thoughts
May. 1st, 2022 01:13 pmI liked both episodes well enough.
Eve of the Daleks
+ What I liked best about this episode was the decreasing time loop aspect. It was fun.
+ The episode being contained to one location with only two supporting characters was also a good choice.
+ Sarah and Nick were both fine characters.
+ I appreciate the show making Yaz's very clear feelings for the Doctor canon.
Legend of the Sea Devils
+ I really liked what they did with Thirteen/Yaz. The Doctor is clearly using some flawed reasoning in thinking that not starting a romantic relationship with Yaz will somehow keep her from being hurt when it inevitably ends because those feelings are already there. However it is completely in character for Thirteen to think that. She's always kept a distance between herself and her Companions and seems (particularly) actively afraid of emotional vulnerability. But I like that she stepped far outside her comfort zone to actually address Yaz's feelings and her own, to reassure Yaz instead of continuing to try and ignore the situation. The beach scene was lovely.
+ I liked the look of the Sea Devils a lot. They looked genuinely great.
+ I always love when the Doctor and her Companions dress up so that was great and Yaz convincing Dan to dress as a pirate caricature was fun.
+ Another thing I always love is mentions of past Companions so the quick mention of River was great.
+ I liked the supporting cast. Madame Ching was great. Ying Ki was fine and I liked that he joined her crew at the end.
