Goosebumps

Meh.

+ As I watched I got more annoyed at the movie making Zach the main character and in the end I couldn't get over it. I found it especially egregious when it came to Hanna. The reveal over the truth about Hanna being centred on Zach bothered me. Hanna having a tearful goodbye with the kid she's known for a week (at most) instead of her father was utterly ridiculous. Even the reveal that she was brought back was all about him. It bothered me a lot. Plus I feel like Hanna would have been a far more obvious and interesting choice of main character. Imagine learning that you are a fictional character created by your father and that to save the world you have to sacrifice yourself. That's so much more interesting!

And as part of that I also got annoyed when Zach had to finish the story when again Hanna doing it would have been so much better.

+ I did like the concept of the movie with the creatures of the books coming out. That was pretty fun.

+ I liked Jack Black as R.L. Stine and his vendetta against Stephen King.

Spy

I enjoyed it a lot. I would absolutely watch a sequel.

+ What makes this movie great and my favourite thing is how supremely competent Susan really is. She's still awkward at times and uncertain but at her base she is a deeply competent spy at every level. On the tech side, at quick thinking, at fighting, at lying convincingly. It was so great.

+ I loved Susan. Thought she was very relatable. Loved how good she was at her job. Her fight scenes were a delight.

+ The humour could be pretty hit or miss. I cringed a couple times but I also laughed out loud. Susan's bodyguard persona was hilarious.

+ Jason Stathom as Ford was fun.
