That was an unexpectedly wild ride.
+ Come for the usual disaster movie, end with aliens, the moon being a spaceship, AIs wanting to wipe out humanity and a new origin for life. Okay then! Honestly I kind of loved the swerve. I'm all for doing something different, and I'm all for unexpected sci-fi and aliens. I loved the dueling AIs and the reveal about the moon. It was fun.
+ Of course even with all that this was a very predictable disaster movie that hit basically all the points. Houseman choosing to sacrifice himself in place of Harper was so immediately obvious. Harper, Fowler and Housemen being the only ones to go up, obvious.
The worst was Tom Lopez, aka the new SO, dying. I knew as soon as his first scene that he would die. His character type always dies! Whether he's a good guy sacrificing himself, or an asshole who shows his true colours and gets punished this was always gonna be his fate. I give points for how he died - giving his youngest daughter his oxygen and then the way he encouraged her to keep moving was genuinely moving. But I'm still annoyed that he died. I'm more annoyed that he was so far back from the others! Why were they not keeping together? I would never let my loved ones fall out of sight in that sort of situation!
+ Some fun effects.
