Gremlins 2
Nov. 24th, 2022 10:03 pmI can't believe I didn't know this existed. Fairly fun if ridiculous, over-the-top nonsense.
+ Gizmo continued to be adorable. Loved his addiction to TV.
+ The mid-movie interruption and random Hulk Hogan appearance was unexpected but fun.
+ Kate starting to go into a staring-into-the-middle-distance soliloquy about a terrible experience in her past and Billy interrupting was hilarious.
+ I found Mohawk's torturing Gizmo - photocopier, velcro, toy train - inventive and fun.
+ I loved the lightning Gremlin getting trapped in the phone on hold and it's reaction.
+ I continued to enjoy gremlins just as a concept and their malicious trickiness.
+ In one way it was nice that the writers tried to give the new gremlins distinctive personalities but I was very meh about the loopy/crazy one and the existence of the sexy female version made me roll my eyes a little. (Though her entrance into the musical number was great.)
+ Not a fan of the whole Marla/Billy thing but I did like that it wasn't actually that big a deal and that Marla wasn't punished over it.
+ I thought the genetics lab was going to have something to do with the outbreak but they were pretty incidental and mostly just contributed some fun new Gremlin forms. And guns. Also Christopher Lee who was wonderfully fun as Dr. Catheter.
+ Billy's electrocution solution at the end worked for me.
+ I liked that Clamp was self-absorbed and egotistical but mostly well-meaning.
+ The flying Gremlin turning into a statue after being coated in concrete was silly but amusing.
+ The opening with Mr. Wing didn't work for me. I mean we know he has a grandson. And if he knew he was sick he would have tried to make sure Gizmo was taken care of. Also them tearing down the building without clearing out his shop made me wince.
