Z Nation Season 2
Jan. 12th, 2023 11:15 pmI liked it.
+ Murphy/Warren were wonderful this season. Really loved them. I really love that Warren is the only person Murphy will occasionally listen to. I love that even when he doesn't listen or feels antagonistic, never once has he actually turned on her, tried to kill her or even left her to die. He genuinely does respect her and even though she harshly shoots down the idea they're friends their interactions show otherwise.
I love how much Warren has grown to understand Murphy and that she is genuinely very sympathetic towards him over his feelings about killing zombies. I love how kind and gentle she is during those times when he is grieving. I love how she's there for him. I loved that moment in 2x13 when she reached out her hand and Murphy took it, and let her lead him away from the zombies.
I loved that when La Reina named Warren as her most loyal Murphy immediately looked worried and freaked out at the idea of her getting the serum, and then we got that wonderful moment with "let me save her as she's saved me many times." So great.
+ I also continued to really enjoy Murphy/Doc. Even if Murphy did keep hiding and just watched as Doc was being strangled to death. Asshole move, Murphy! Especially his little 'bye Doc' as he ran away. But then they get high together in the next episode because of course they do, and it was delightful. I love that Doc just doesn't hold a grudge. Their goodbye in the finale with the hug was really sweet and lovely.
+ Poor Mack. He and Addy didn't even have the chance to make up and resolve things! I was so sure that Addy would save him. He's saved her so many times including this episode, it's his thing, so it would have made sense to see her return the favour.
+ I was excited about Cassandra somehow surviving the nuclear blast but I ended up being disappointed with her role. I did like her bond with Murphy and found that interesting if maybe not entirely how it played out. But while she was more than a zombie she basically only acted like Murphy's attack dog minion and her exact level of understanding and memory was left unclear. Which is weird because a) that seems like something the show would want to explore, and b) the couple he bit next seemed entirely normal. It felt like there was so much more they could have done with her and just didn't. Then her death ended up being all about 10k and Murphy. And also considering how tough she was her death felt way too easy.
+ Serena's death was bullshit. Everyone accepting her sacrificing herself without even trying to help her annoyed me. I did find it interesting that Murphy who has been so reluctant to kill zombies was the one asking Warren to give zombie!Serena mercy.
+ Baby Lucy was indeed freaky and adorable. I loved how much Murphy doted on her. The whole baby hot potato scene was fun. But, while I understand why the show wanted to get her off-screen, Murphy leaving her with two of his bitten zombies in the middle of nowhere and everyone just seeming to accept that she was gone was very weird to me. Intrigued about toddler Lucy at the end. She continues to be freaky and adorable. Can't wait for her to meet up with the gang again.
+ Not sure I'm sold on the whole Escorpian situation in the final. I find him surviving being pulled off the ladder into a swarm of zombies deeply unbelievable. And while he was a bit upset when Vasquez was talking about his daughter I also don't know that I buy him being so remorseful and wanting to redeem himself.
+ Addy has come into her own more this season and I really liked how she's been increasingly positioned as Warren's second in command. I love how Addy always has Warren's back and her loyalty to her. I mean when Doc almost left Addy didn't even seem to consider leaving with him. I loved her waiting at the bottom of the ladder for Warren. I love that Warren trusts her implicitly. I really want an episode of just the two of them now.
+ I liked the flashback episode. Doc's section was my favourite and honestly just confirmed that he is the best. I love that he was a therapist. And a good one at that! It makes so much sense. Vasquez was definitely the most upsetting. Talk about terrible timing. He already blamed himself for his family's deaths and being forced to 'kill' them again, just ouch. The Addy/Mack one didn't entirely work for me. I liked their initial meeting and how that played out... except I feel like it kind of contradicts her whole traumatic flashback thing last season. In those flashbacks she stabs her mother in the chest over and over because she doesn't know better and yet she and Mack fought a lot of zombie before that point so how could she not know? And where was Mack during all that? It would have made more sense for them to have met after. Still it was nice to see Mack again.
Random things:
+ I was disappointed with the Sisters of Mercy being destroyed so quickly and semi-annoyed that basically everyone died. Boo.
+ The way Warren was knocked down/had her near death experience bothered me because it made her look incompetent. There was no need for her to get that close to the bounty hunter.
+ Why the hell would they test batch 47 on their chemist instead of random person #5? Made no sense, bothered me a bunch.
+ Everything about the cheese wheel was a delight.
+ I loved Doc refusing to leave 10k even if it meant abandoning the others and the mission, and that in turn 10k was 100% certain that Doc wouldn't abandon him. That's all I want from this show, is them having each other's backs no matter what.
+ I enjoyed the whole Collector situation and Murphy being forced to deal with him.
+ 10k spending the entire Rozwell episode really enjoying teasing the crap out of Murphy and was fun to watch.
+ Doc's enthusiasm over experimenting to save Greg using Murphy's blood was rather cute and I loved his "and it's turning that pretty blue just like Murphy". Adorable.
+ This season really brought home how much I like the idea of Citizen Z being listened to around the world. I wish that had been played up more. More reactions from people over his talks with the group. People getting into the whole story of Operation Bitemark. Also I like the idea of him using this powerful resource he has to help others during his boring downtime. Telling random places around the world if there's a storm or zombie storm coming their way.
+ Murphy needs to learn subtlety and stop biting people on the face.
