A Korean Odyssey Episodes 1 - 4
Feb. 3rd, 2024 11:40 pm+ I'm enjoying Oh-gong/Seon-mi. Him genuinely wanting to eat her (and spending time actively trying to get her to commit suicide) while she enslaves him including forcing him to love her (even if it's a side-effect) is certainly a novel start to a relationship! The scene where the meet again after the time jump had some very Jareth/Sarah vibes to it.
+ I'm so very sad for Seon-mi and her quiet lonely misery. I wanted to give her a hug when she forced Oh-gong to take her out in all the ways she'd missed out on and was so privately pleased by it. Such a little, and false, thing meant so much - ouch. The way she's actively fooling herself over Oh-gong - that him pointing out that he loves her but it will go away as soon as she removes the bracelet actually surprises her - also hurts. Even if it's forced she has someone she can rely on, someone to turn to, to be honest with, to trust and it's clear how desperately she's wanted and needed this.
It's not a life she wants but rather one she's been forced into, and yet she's still so kind. I mean she chose a career that allowed her to actively help people with ghosts (while putting herself in danger) even though she knew it would only make her life harder. I find that pretty amazing of her. Also she feeds lost ghosts and that's sweet. And she wouldn't burn zombie Bu-ja.
+ I loved Seon-mi declaring to Oh-gong that she has herself, and that she's proud of the life she's created.
+ Woo Ma-wang is a fun character. Much less serious bad guy then I was expecting at first. His interactions with Oh-gong are so much fun. His exasperation and impotent anger, their shared pettiness - I love watching it. His moments getting caught doing embarrassing things is a bit much for me but I love his over-dramatic ridiculousness.
+ The addition of zombie Bu-ja is great. I loved Seon-mi refusing to just burn her without first figuring out who she was. I liked Bu-ja's hero-worship of Seon-mi and taking her last name.
+ I loved the group text and Oh-gong's increasing aggravation over not being invited.
+ I like Ma Ji-young and her unshakable loyalty to Ma-wang. Also the way she offers violence as a solution to any problem, heh.
+ P.K. and Ji-young's little dog vs pig snap fight at New Years was great. I love when we get moments showing how they're not human (especially when they look human.)
+ Geumganggo may cause Oh-gong's love for Seon-mi but removing it wouldn't allow him to eat/kill her any more then he could before he had it because they still have a deal! It bothers me that it keeps being brought up as if it's the only thing keeping him from his prey.
