Kingdom Season 1
Mar. 17th, 2024 12:58 pmHmm. It was okay but only just that. It was okay. This is very sad! I've heard so much about what a great zombie canon this is and it just didn't work for me.
+ The characters are fine. I didn't love any of them or any of the relationships which I think is maybe a big part of why I didn't love this series like I hoped.
+ I liked that Lee Chang actually was working against his father with the scholars. Sure, it was more against Lord Cho Hak-ju and an understandable act to try and save himself but still treason. I like how desperately Lee Chang is trying to be a good person and a good leader.
+ Yeong-shin didn't make the best first impression but him feeding everyone the dead body, in the midst of everyone slowly starving, was kind of understandable. Just like, let people know what they're eating? But he won me over when it's revealed that he stuck around to keep the zombies contained and under control. He very easily could have run away. It was a very fucked up situation. But he didn't so good for him.
+ That said Yeong-shin and Seo-bi clearly seemed to realise that the bodies needed to be burned (at the very least) so... why didn't they do that? Did Lee Chang come upon them the next day? Could they really have gotten all those stakes up in that amount of time?
+ Mu-yeong has to be the mole yes? I mean there are really not that many options! His pregnant wife being left in the capital city becoming a hostage against him makes complete sense. If he is the mole then I hope it doesn't end with his death or Lee Chang repudiating him because it's clear that he really is loyal to Lee Chang and is trying to help him.
+ The zombies themselves are perfectly fine. I liked the whole idea of them running from the sun and hiding themselves away before becoming inert for the day. That was something completely different. Though the reveal that it's the heat that causes them to shut down makes more sense than the day/sun itself. I liked how they came about and how things went so bad so quickly.
+ The show looked good. Nice costuming, really good atmosphere.
+ The most frustration scene was in episode 5 when the villagers take them into the field and they all get attacked by the buried boat zombies. Attack the zombie as it's coming out of the ground. Step up in front of the scared/confused villagers or send them away. Don't let the zombie murder someone and make a new zombie you'll have to deal if you can stop it. Or at least chop the head off the attacking zombie while he's distracted and take out the villager while you're at it. Go for the head! The scene was so frustrating. So much normal fighting with hitting people, slashing them across the body or stabbing them, or kicking them out of the way and it's like NO stop being stupid about this you idiots know how to kill them and none of this is it!
+ When I saw all the pregnant women gathered I assumed the queen was simply stacking the deck in case she birthed a girl so her not actually being pregnant surprised me.
+ The Queen and her father are so unnecessarily murderous that it's almost comical. Like why does she need to bring in a poor maid to help her unbath/dress thus revealing her scam (and implying they're going to have her killed) when her head court lady could/should do that? Why are they sacrificing maids/court ladies to the king for food instead of random peasants? Or all these scholars Hak-ju is murdering and dumping in a lake. Why is she murdering the pregnant peasants and their girl babies instead of just sending them off into the world again? That's just some very pointless murder!
+ I really need a scene of those scholars in the lake rising up to murder Hak-ju. IDK, I just really want it. He sucks so much and those guys deserve to be the ones to drag him down.
