Alice in Borderland Season 1
May. 14th, 2024 03:13 pmI liked it fine.
+ The main characters were for the most part likeable or understandable. The final four at the end - Usagi, Chishiya, Kuina and Arisu - plus Ann, are all great.
+ I liked how fast paced most of the games were and in general the show is paced well. I liked how players were not only competing in a game but were sometimes forced to be a part of the game.
+ Man, if everyone had only been chill for like 30 minutes Ann would have had the witch game solved and done.
+ Was genuinely shocked that Chōta and Karube died. I didn't see that coming.
+ I am so curious if there was any way for all of them to survive the Hide-and-Seek Wolf game and if so how?
+ I was not a fan of Chōta/Shibuki. I didn't like her sleeping with him but okay she's using what she knows to try and increase her chances of survival, via manipulation, fine. [But I can't help but feel like it was mainly so he didn't die a virgin.] I didn't like him essentially getting her killing (by holding her down) so one of his friends could survive instead. Meh to everything in that storyline.
+ In the tunnel game right from the beginning I was like find a vehical with fuel and siphon it off for the van! This seemed such an obvious path for them to take. When they found the refreshment station it was like now you even have bottles to carry it! So I found that frustrating. But I loved the reveal that the bus was actually the goal/safe zone the entire time. That was a great twist on expectations.
+ I hope Chishiya using Arisu as a scapegoat/pawn and leaving him to die comes back up in some way. Yes they're in a life and death situation but for future trust it needs to at least be brought up.
+ I can't feel too bad for many of those 'gamemasters'/controllers. Sure, they were also trapped in the game and forced into doing what they did but the way they laughed and had fun at the players terror and deaths had me going 'and fuck all of you too'.
+ I liked that Arisu saving Tatta came back around as Tatta was essential in saving Arisu during the final game. He's a sweet guy so I hope he's back next season.
+ Aguni losing it after Hatter's death and deciding everyone had to die was a lot especially when it was the senseless killing of people that he initially spoke out against!
+ Niragi coming back as a final villain for five minutes after being set entirely on fire and falling off a roof was maybe a bit much. All I can think is of this becoming a Chilton (from Hannibal) situation where something terrible happens to him and then he somehow survives only for something new and terrible to happen the next season. Of course Chilton ended his run being set on fire and Niragi is starting there but as a gag it amuses me.
+ I liked Aguni sacrificing himself to take down Niragi. That did feel appropriate. But at the same time where the hell did all the guns go??? Surely not all of them were empty. We saw a bunch of people holding them before Niragi's arrival. What the heck?
