Chuck Versus the Subway

I liked this episode and I loved the ending.

• I really loved the ending. I loved our main three – Chuck, Sarah and Casey – together again. I loved Ellie, Devon and Morgan riding to their rescue. The whole thing was awesome and so well done and I am so excited about where this could be going. I have enjoyed the Buy More over the last three season, more so in the first two, but I think this season showed that the show has moved into a place now where the Buy More is no longer an important part of the show. It might even detract from it.

I’m hoping that next season will actually move on from the Buy More. I find myself really wanting these six characters – Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Ellie, Devon and Morgan – to go on the run together and next season to be all about them fighting the Ring while on the run and trying to get their lives back (no Buy More). That could be so much fun and so interesting. Plus with civilians Morgan, Ellie and Devon along Chuck can finally be allowed to be an awesome spy, who is competent at what he does, instead of the one who keeps messing up - which after three years is something I’d like to see a lot more of (though we have been moving in that direction).

“The guy that I killed is back from the dead! A guy, who keep in mind, is a Ring operative, who knows our covers, where we live, where Castle is...” – Chuck. This was interesting – Chuck so casually talking about the ‘guy I killed’ and Stephen’s expression showed that he too found it... strange. Chuck really has grown, or perhaps changed is a better word, from how he began this whole journey. I had a similar moment when he took his own floor of the building, now a fully trusted partner, and entered it holding his gun, drawn, seemingly both able and willing to use it.

“Hmm. Don’t know when it happened, but our boy became a man. Bartowski’s a spy. You picked a good one, Walker. Finally.” – Casey, Sarah smiles. ♥ This made me go aww. I loved it. Casey thinks Chuck is a ‘good one’! Aww. Which we knew but I love hearing him say it. I also loved Sarah and Casey’s goodbye with Casey’s “Good luck, Agent Walker. Sarah.” Can we have more of them being partners again next season?

- And as far as Chuck being a spy now for the most part it is true, he has come so far, which is why I think how he messed up right after that was so annoying. It would certainly have had more weight if Chuck and Stephen didn’t just stroll out of the Ring base as if they were walking out of a store. That was an evil organisation’s base and their casualness there – no keeping an eye out, no guns drawn – was so... amateurish. They didn’t hear an alarm but – evil spy organisation! If Chuck were truly the spy that Casey and Sarah were I would have expected more.

• It was nice to see Alex again and that there was actual fallout from Casey learning he had a daughter. I loved that he became a regular at her work and became friendly enough with her that he knew what was happening in her life. I love him immediately going to protect her though I was really hoping either he or Sarah would have thought to warn Morgan and Devon that they needed to at least be on alert if not actively going to ground for awhile. I loved her keeping calm despite her fear, talking herself out of her fear and then kicking his ass when he grabbed her – she is so Casey’s daughter. I really hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of her. I, in fact, wish that we had seen the scene with her telling her mom everything and how it lead her to the Buy More.

• Morgan talking so casually about the spy business to Alex, despite knowing nothing about her, made me shake my head but then telling Awesome he could talk in front of her because she was one of them made me go ‘wait, what? Morgan!’ because – what? Oy. Sigh. I suppose though giving it some further thought he probably meant that she was a civilian attached to a spy like Morgan and Awesome are and not actually in the spy business (though it often seems like Morgan thinks he is).

• On the gender fail front there was very little but – General Beckman being physically carried out of her office fighting was both amusing in a way but also seriously irritating. She is a high ranking military officer and you just don’t do that. It lessens her authority and it annoyed me. They’d never do that with a guy. Awesome’s “My wife has given herself to another man.” also made me go 0_0 a bit.

• Wow, evil Shaw is even hotter than ‘good’ Shaw. Him waving to Chuck through the window was pretty hot.

“That’s my dream come true. Ellie is exactly like Chuck except with lady parts.” – Jeff. Random and kind of horrifying, or at least the other characters seemed to think so. Are we supposed to take from this that Jeff has a crush on Chuck?

• I have a hard time buying that the meeting among all the high government leadership about the Intersect program would take place in Burbank instead of DC. ... and this is explained well enough in the next episode by them being there for a spy meeting.

• The fact that Chuck didn’t think to look for Shaw on the cameras is a bit hard to swallow but he was freaking out so fine, but Sarah and Casey, while not computer savants like Chuck, are competent spies and it should have been something they thought of and immediately got on. Stephen having to come in to do it while they stood there helpless felt too much like the writers shoehorning in something for him to do.

• I also wondered why Sarah didn’t go with Chuck and Stephen? I mean she’s Chuck’s partner and girlfriend did they both just think the CIA, especially with Shaw there, would pat her on the head and send her off on another assignment? The last time they saw Shaw he tried to kill Sarah because, unless they forgot, she killed his wife. There is no way that Sarah would be safe being left behind and they both should have known that. Ug. So stupid.
