Once Upon a Time Thoughts

I loved this episode! Everything came together and just worked really well for me.
Liked
- Emma being competent and awesome. I loved her getting herself free.
- Emma’s continued love and loyalty towards Mary Margaret.
- Emma/Jefferson’s interactions and mad chemistry. One episode and I find myself shipping them so much. All of their scenes were excellent.
- The Mad Hatter. I wasn’t spoiled and was wracking my brain trying to figure out what fairy tale character he could be. I didn’t actually figure it out until Jefferson took the hat out of the box at the castle.
- Jefferson and Regina’s Wonderland adventure. It was fun. Actually the Jefferson/Regina relationship as a whole. I am really interested to know about their past.
- Queen Regina and getting to see both her softer side and her ruthlessness in her final scene with Jefferson.
- Mary Margaret saving Emma and then kicking Jefferson out the window. That was pretty awesome. It appears that Snow is starting to shine through.
- I love that Mary hits Jefferson with a croquet mallet.
- “Nobody has ever been there for me except for you. And I cannot lose that. I can’t lose my family. ... Friends. Whatever. You know what I mean.” - Emma. ♥ That whole Emma/Mary scene was so great and I loved them holding hands.
- I loved how Jefferson became the Mad Hatter and the scene of him in full Mad form at the end was excellent.
- I loved the look at the Queen of Hearts and the twist on her whole 'off with his head' thing. That is that the person survives the beheading.
Other
- Jefferson: There are infinite more. They touch one another -- pressing up in a long line of lands. Each just as real as the last -- all have their own rules. Some have magic; some don't. Hmm. So almost like parallel worlds then?
I find myself a bit fascinated by Jefferson's hat. Where did it come from and more importantly where did those other doors in it go?
- I can’t see Jefferson killing Emma. Would he really have shot her? I doubt it.
- So Emma can make hats now? That doesn't seem like a likely skill for her to have learned. But then she didn't bring that up as a reason why she couldn't do it. Is the ability to do it a part of her magic?
- So what happened to Jefferson? There was a noise after he went through the window that makes me think he disappeared into the hat Emma made. If he did does that mean he was able to find his way back to the Enchanted Forest? But then it's without Grace so it's just as bad as his life in Storybrooke. I hope we see him again.
- If the Hatter ended up in Storybrooke does that mean that he escaped Wonderland, that Wonderland characters ended up in Storybrooke as well (and thus isn't a separate world from the Enchanted Forest) or that the curse took all Enchanted Forest people regardless of where they currently were?
- Did Storybrook Regina and Jefferson know each other? At first I thought that he would turn out to be working for Regina but I guess the fact that he remembers can explain why not. Just how many people can remember?
- I want to know more about the Queen of Hearts. I really hope she gets her own episode at some point.
- It was brought up several times but - what does happen to the people who leave Storybrooke? Kathryn disappeared - where did she end up? How did Regina/whomever get her heart? I hope we get an answer by the end of the season.
1x18 'The Stable Boy'
This was another excellent episode.
- So, wow, that's Regina's reason for hating Snow. I was actually expecting Snow to have purposefully done something against Regina but in this case I can't really blame her for what happened. She was a child and she got played by a master manipulator. Regina wouldn't have fallen for it, of course, probably not even when she was Snow's age but then Regina spent her life under constant abuse by her mother and loved but not protected by her father. Meanwhile Snow had always been loved and protected by her parents and her greatest trauma in life was the loss of her mother. They had such completely different childhoods and POVs. Even if Snow hadn’t been so young Cora probably still would have been able to manipulate her because she couldn’t image someone having reason to be afraid of their mother.
So Regina's hatred of Snow White is pretty unreasonable and yet I can still understand why she reacted like that. It seems to me that Regina blamed Snow so much because in the beginning Snow was the only person she could safely blame. I can see that hate only growing stronger as time passes and Regina is forced to keep it bottled up. I can imagine her go over and over what happened in her head, and constantly saying to herself 'if only she had kept her mouth shut/kept her promise' and it just reinforcing her belief in Snow's blame.
- Cora is so horrible. Considering how similar Regina's magic is to what we see of Cora's I'm going to assume that Regina ends up stealing her mother's power somehow; probably just before killing her. I wonder if that causes a change in Regina emotionally/mentally? I mean it's a big leap from wanting Snow to suffer to wanting everyone to suffer.
- So is Cora, a 'miller's daughter', the girl from the original Rumpelstiltskin tale? In the tale she was forced by a king to spin straw into gold because of her father's boasting and eventually married the king and defeated Rumpelstiltskin's attempt to take her first born by learning his name. So how much of that is true? Clearly not the king part but did Cora make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin? Perhaps for her magic powers or to marry Henry? Did Cora win Regina back from Rumpelstiltskin. That could be interesting.
- I really liked the Snow/Regina scenes. Things could have been so different between them. They could have been so amazing for each other.
- Bailee Madison as young Snow White was perfectly cast. One of the best bits of casting I've seen in awhile. She not only looked a lot like older Snow White but her voice/tone, expressions and mannerisms were so well done. Really good job there.
- "I would never betray you." - August to Emma Hmm. He was so... fervent in that. I've seen speculation that he could be Pinocchio but I don't like that idea. How and why would he have gotten free from the curse? Him being the narrator on the other hand is great.
- I am so glad Kathryn's not dead! I wonder if she has her memory? She looked pretty out of it.
