The Husky & His White Cat Shizun

+ I really love that Mo Ran decided, while waiting for Chu Wanning to return, to travel the world and become a protector instead of a destroyer. Him helpng the small villages, the people that others look away from, the weak is wonderful. Especially after the flashback in the previous volume to his mother and you see him living up to his promise to her and her ideals not just Chu Wanning.
One of my favourite parts of Mo Ran's five year journey is him deciding on his own to take classes and learn everything he missed because of his childhood and ignored/slacked off while a student.
+ "I'd grown into the you I held in my heart." That's an amazing line.
+ After Chu Wanning's harshness re: Rong Jiu in the previous volume I appreciate Mo Ran's new understanding of people being unplanted fields. Sometimes through no fault of your own terrible things can grow in your plot, sometimes it can change you but that doesn't mean you deserve that fate, and/or don't deserve a new chance. It was a little healing to see him have this POV but also I'd like to see him apply it to someone not himself.
+ Shi Mei continues to have a much smaller place in the book then I was expected. I was still so suspicious of him at the beginning of the book that I was immediately 'hmm what is that locket for really, hmm??' and was relieved when Mo Ran didn't take it. I was pleased by Mo Ran feeling distant from Shi Mei when they reunited, and his discomfort with him, and then when Mo Ran realised that he hadn't ever been in love with Shi Mei. They didn't really have interactions post-revelation so I am curious about how things will be with them going forward.
+ I loved that Mo Ran figured out for himself that it was Chu Wanning who saved him at the lake not Shi Mei.
+ The gossip book describing Mo Ran as "an absolute unit, truly awe-inspiring" - lol. Chu Wanning losing it upon realising what it meant and then him continuing to be flustered by it for the rest of the volume was great.
+ Mo Ran realising that he was in love with Chu Wanning, that he had always been in love with Chu Wanning, was such a FINALLY! moment. I'm glad that he finally understands his own emotions even though they seem determined to continue to misunderstand the other's emotions. It's a major step in the right direction.
+ I love Mo Ran all-consuming desire to take of and treasure and make life easier for Chu Wanning. His determination to not let others think badly of him out of misunderstanding anymore. His need to make sure Chu Wanning is eating properly, and isn't too cold, and to take care of even the smallest injury and also just to try and prevent Chu Wanning from feeling lonely. He makes him food, makes him try new foods, gets him treats. It's all really lovely. My favourite though is probably just the fact that he wrote Chu Wanning a letter a day for five years.
As is his wish to honour Chu Wanning by never sullying him with Mo Ran's ardour for him again (after what he put him through in their last life) - and how that fails hard every time because Mo Ran is just so very horny for him. It's great.
+ I loved Mo Ran buying himself and Chu Wanning matching pendants and then cloaking the gift for what it was by also buying everyone else a little gift too, so that Chu Wanning would accept it. Clever.
+ I've always liked Xue Zhengyong who seems like a pretty stand-up guy but he cemented his reputation with me when he said if he had that much qi-refinement stones he would pave a public square in ever single village so that the people would have a place to shelter when under attack.
