Blood Washed Away

To be honest this episode was definitely one of the weakest ones thus far. It very much felt like it was treading water. That said it did end with a bang.

+ Everyone dying was shocking but at the same time this is a time travel show so I doubt any of them are going to stay dead. Still it made an exciting final couple minutes.

+ The other big thing, probably bigger overall in the scheme of things, was the reveal that Cole bought and was living in the house from the red forest dreams. That was a great reveal. As was the words that Olivia spoke to her were about that time and place, possibly something to be worried about!

+ Cole and Cassie finally getting together was nice. I like that Cole had his own bout of running away (to protect Cassie and allow her to move on) and that finally the both of them acknowledged their feelings. And then immediately hopped into bed but to be fair they have been circling each other for a long time.

+ I'm not actually sure why they had a year pass in the future as well? It's the future and it doesn't need to keep time with the past. The problem with so much time passing is that it leaves characters and relationships static which doesn't seem realistic or the characters/relationships do change (see Cassie, Cassie/Deacon this season) but without letting us see any of the character development. The latter annoys me (unless flashbacks) but I find the former really unbelievable. You're telling me that team Splinter has been travelling with the Daughters for a whole year and nothing has changed there? The issues we do see could have easily built up over weeks, or frankly even days, whereas a year having passed makes me go 'hmmmm are you sure?' I didn't buy it and I wish they hadn't put that year time jump in.

Meanwhile over to Cole and Cassie we have them mission focused for almost a year without no seeming change in their relationship, with things being tense between them, then Cassie spends 6 months in a coma with Cole visiting, then she wakes and spends 6 months alone being a nurse while Cole spends it alone fixing a house. There is just a lot of time happening here, time where they are very much in a static position. It doesn't bother me like the future timeline but it feels wasted a little.

+ I did like the little interplay between Jennifer, Deacon and Emissary. I was surprised to see Deacon actually travelling with the Daughters (and not say murdered) and also by how quiet and conciliatory and respectful he was towards Jennifer. Jennifer defending him and preventing Emissary from killing him isn't really surprising as a character point but I found it intriguing. Is Deacon's new attitude based on him trying to stay alive while surrounded by dozens of women who want him dead? Is he genuinely shaken and sorry for having killed Old!Jennifer and being faced with Young!Jennifer every day has forced him to feel what he did in a way killing anyone ever has before? I am interested to see if the show has plans for Jennifer/Deacon.

+ I am not surprised at all that the Daughters situation went off the rails but I am that it took a year to get there.

+ How was it that it wasn't there when Hannah passed that place? I believe her so it's probably an important clue, though I'm drawing a blank.

+ If Charlie could acknowledge that the Witness could be wrong when he fell in love with his wife then why did they both still buy so completely that the whole red forest eternal life promise would be true? Just desperation because she was dying?

+ Honestly I was surprised that Ramse bothered to demand anything instead of simply opening fire on the potential Witness.

+ I wonder if Cole struck up his friendship with Agent Gale during his two years in the '50s?
