Causality

This was probably the funnest episode of the show thus far.

+ This episode had such a fun opening. I loved it. The whole tone of it was so different then the usual.
- '3, 2, go...' Deacon's gleeful smile at Jennifer starting in on her story/plan while Katarina is in full 'dear god' mode was great.
- Olivia acting as Jennifer was deeply disconcerting and also hilarious.
- 'Olivia' grabbing the cage bars at the triumphant end of her speech - and getting shocked LOL
- "Assault on monkey mansion? Storm the castle? I like it. I want in." and then him popping up in the background with "If you're pulling a heist I want in" Ha.
- Cole calling Deacon an asshole and him just going along with it in the background.
- Each of them popping up from below the frame one after another - Hehehe

+ Jennifer was absolutely winning this episode and I love that for her. She got to come up with a great plan, she played to her crazy strengths in executing it, she got a copy of the map, she was a solid friend by protecting Cassie/Cole, she got to stand up to her father, and got to encourage her younger self. It was wonderful all around.

+ Jennifer and Deacon are in fact turning out to be a winning combination. He's honestly so good with her and handles her type of crazy as good as anyone ever has. Him telling her that "somebody's got to watch your back" is giving me very positive vibes for them this season. I hope the show keeps going in this direction with them. I loved Jennifer's "ooo sparkly" reaction to the necklace and then when talking with kid!Jennifer Deacon gives her a ring with "look sparkly". I loved Deacon telling her that her "you're dad is an asshole, never forget that".

+ The Deacon/Cole bar scene was great. I loved how every single thing Deacon said was a double edged sword that managed to hit Cole in two different spots - Ramse and his son. Without even knowing he was doing any of it, now that's talent! Cole still defending Ramse with "he did what he thought was right" made me awww. But I also loved Deacon calling bullshit on it and that Ramse being a selfish dick who only cared for his son. Also loved him pointing out that Ramse barely knew Sam.

+ I really loved that little scene between Cassie and Jennifer in the car. It's been a while since we've seen them simply being friends. I liked Cassie listening to Jennifer and trying to support her, and just them caring about each other.

+ "I refuse to surrender!" I love Katarina. There is a reason why she runs the project.

+ I really loved the Katarina/Marcus scene. I wish he had more screen time because theirs is one relationship that I think is underdeveloped and deserves a little more time. I've always been intrigued by his loyalty to Katarina. And of course it's always been there that he believed in the mission but he clearly really believes in Katarina. It was nice to hear from him. He wanted to build something but then the world ended so "at least I can protect something." and he chose Katarina and her splinter mission because to him it sounded like hope. Also his understanding that they don't have a future so he wants to go down fighting. I liked getting a little more insight into him. My favourite moment though was the big grin on Marcus's face when he stated knowingly that she was working on "another batshit crazy plan to get us out of this". He believes in her so much! More of them please.

+ Katarina being impressed by Jennifer's concise plan and complimenting her was a sweet moment. I also appreciated her taking the moment to give Jennifer some advice on the mission. Then ending it with "don't fuck up" LOL. And then at the end of it all, even despite her supposed hand fuck up she still got a "well done Miss Goines" and it was great. I love how happy and proud she was.

+ "This is our problem. We'll figure it out." Sigh. Not unexpected. I figured that their long glance at the end of the last episode meant this direction. It's completely in character. And honestly I can't really blame them because once the entire facility knows it's only a countdown til there's a coup. I get why too they'd option first to trying to save their son instead of straight back to murder. But all the same, oh boy, I don't know that this is going to go well.

+ Cassie and Cole's tense little back and forth when they realised that the map was gone - "It's not here Cassie. / Yes I can see that James" - made me laugh. On the whole I enjoyed them this episode.

+ "I just killed the only conscious I ever had." I both see why Cole thinks this and kind of disagree. Yes, Cole in the past did what was necessary to survive. He didn't hesitate to kill and it was Ramse acting as his moral centre trying to make him question what was necessary. But I think it's clear that Cole is a good person and he does have his own morality, he just can't find it to believe in himself. The person he positioned as his moral conscious has shown he is not as steady as he thought and he's struggle with his choice to kill Ramse. I hope his journey includes self-discovery and the realisation that he is a good guy.

+ It was rather a big deal at the beginning of the series that Cole successfully went to the past but at this point basically anyone can go do so.
