I liked it okay though it's my least favourite of the her three books.

+ I really liked how the end came together - from Rook challenging the Alder King and then running, to Isobel painting his portrat and using the distraction to kill him. And how that made Isobel Queen, and brought about Autumn with her marriage to Rook.

+ Sometimes love at first sight/quickly falling in love works for me and sometimes it doesn't. This one eh, it was too quick to me. Especially on Rook's side. I needed something more there. Plus I think Rook felt a little too human at times and I don't know if it was because of his love, or if that lack of Fae alienness was why they didn't entirely work? That said I did enjoy their interactions overall and how they began to learn more about each other.

+ I liked the inhumanness of the Fae. Both physically but also in their behaviour and their interactions with humans. All of that was great. I enjoyed Isobel's POV of them and their world, as someone who had learned to navigate around them.

+ I loved the idea that the fair ones can't try their own hands at any Craft, even as small as turning a spit, as it would lead to their death. A neat idea.

+ I liked Isobel's painting Craft and how she brought emotion into her paintings and thus into her subjects. But while it was used in the end to defeat the Alder King as I ended up expecting to happen I wanted more before that. More Fae reaction to their portraits, and more of them realise what it meant.

+ I thought it was blindingly obvious that Gadfly's plan wasn't their death. I enjoyed him a lot.

+ When Aster was getting Isobel ready I was wondering if she was leading Isobel astray. After all she was a fair one now, her trying to destroy Isobel out of jealousy over Isobel still having her Craft would fit perfectly, and I thought Isobel's immediate trust in her simply because she had been human wasn't smart. I was wrong there though.

+ I was disappointed that Hemlock was killed cause I found her very interesting.
