The Ballerina
Jan. 8th, 2026 11:40 pmI enjoyed it.
+ The action scenes were great. I loved how Eve used everything around her as weapons. There was some really inventive fights. Brutal too.
+ Always nice to see John. I liked that he was sympathetic to her and decided to let her loose within the rules to do what she needed to, and then stepped in to help her.
+ I liked that he tried to give the younger her the advice to leave this life and when they next met she had become him, and was now following his same path.
+ As with the other movies in this universe this world works very much on vibes which I rather appreciate. Eve entering the ice dance club (and the subsequent fight) was A+ vibes, I enjoyed it all.
+ Enjoyed the scene with Frank and the weapons shop. I liked Frank being so pissed about his shop he changed his mind and helped Eve.
+ I rather thought Tatiana was killed so seeing Eve watching her dance at the end was great.
+ I liked the montage of Eve learning and improving as a kikimora. I liked the trial of her acting as protector of Tatiana and how she eventually won.
+ I wish there had been a few more scenes, a montage even, of Eve on more missions as a kikimora past that first one. As with the training montage it would have been great to see her evolve in the role.
+ I was rather bummed that Lena died. It felt like she should have lived. They barely got to talk/interact before Lena's death and so it feels like a missed opportunity there. I think instead of a lone wolf deal it would have been cool if Eve had gone back at the end and pulled out her living sister, and the last scene had been the two sisters going on the run together.
+ I enjoyed the restaurant fight in Hallstatt. The way the tension ramps up into fighting for her life over and over, Eve's heartfelt "what the fuck" reaction (understandable), the plate fight was honestly hilarious.
+ My only complaint was the waitress crashing out of the freezer and knocking into the other woman, and the two of them subsequently being killed easily. It felt a little too slapstick. At least let them recover and give Eve a fight before being killed!
+ "Come on, it's only one man." Are you serious? This is Baba Yaga after all. Not to mention it's only been one woman who has been running through the townsfolk all night. If it's the right person it doesn't much matter if they're alone.
+ I wish there had been more emphasis on her taking on the role of kikimora with Ella. In the movie saving Ella ended up being a bonus to Eve's revenge and a cap to her story by allowing her to save the daughter/father and reunite them to have a new chance at a normal life. Whereas I think it would have been interesting if her revenge had come about because of her job to protect Elle. That in finding a purpose she was able to also get her revenge. This isn't really a criticism of the movie, mind. Just an alternate version I'd have liked to have seen.
+ Why didn't Pine try and find a new place to hide in the hotel with his daughter? He had to know that the staff were about to come down hard on the attackers. I guess hoping it would give him an opening to escape and hide again, rather then be trapped there surrounded waiting for then next incursion?
+ I like the idea of former assassins creating a town to give them an opportunity to raise kids and have a 'normal' life.
