Captain America: The First Avenger Review
Jun. 8th, 2012 10:49 pmI finally got around to seeing this and I liked it.
- Steve was wonderful and sweet. As a character he was very likable.
- Peggy was my favourite of the supporting characters. I loved how competent and unflappable she was.
- A part of me wishes that Peggy was brought back as the Winter Soldier instead of Bucky, not that I read the comics, but so that there would be more fic about her. I don't know much about the Winter Soldier - captured and brainwashed by the Russians, trained and used as an assassin, relationship with Black Widow - but I love the idea of Peggy in that role so much.
- I loved the Peggy/Steve relationship and thought that was really well done. The move builds the connection between them so well and I believed them caring for each other.
- I wasn't expecting Tommy Lee Jones to be in it so that was great. I loved "I'm not going to kiss you." - hee.
- Col. Philips relationship with Peggy was wonderful. Theirs is actually one of the relationship in the movie I found most interesting. She seems to be his protege and/or second and that's something I really want to know more about. Plus I loved his amusement when they saw Steve had her picture and his gentleness when Steve died.
- Dr. Erskine was great as well and I really liked his scenes with Steve.
- I liked Bucky and the Bucky/Steve friendship. I loved their loyalty to each other.
- Howard Stark was alright but he really doesn't have the same charisma as his son. Also I was really expecting him to have a larger role in the movie and more interactions with Steve based on the number of fics I've seen pairing them.
- I loved that the guard at the entrance of the store was an old woman. It reminded me of Cypher and an IMBD post about how unrealistic it is to have an older woman as a spy that apparently still irritates me years later.
