Fringe 4x15 Thoughts
Jul. 15th, 2012 03:28 pmA Short Story About Love
+ I really, really disliked the final Olivia/Nina scene. Olivia's going to keep her blue!verse memories because she sees rejecting them as rejecting the possibility of love (like the woman did) and she didn't like who she was in doing that. What? That's stupid. As a reason for her to go from scared at the change to embracing it that just doesn't work for me. I mean there's no reason that Amber!Olivia can't fall in love - with Peter or someone else. Why does Olivia have to accept her blue!verse memories as a prerequisite of accepting love?
Her wanting to let things play out because for all intents and purposes she is blue!Olivia now and her amber life is mostly a dream would have made far more sense. In that case of course she would rather keep who she currently is rather then 'return' to what she was/others think she should be. She doesn't really remember being Amber!Olivia. But instead that's glossed over and instead she's choosing to remain blue!Olivia only because of her love for Peter? Seriously? Ugh.
+ I also really disliked Olivia's assertion that her blue!verse memories and feelings are "a better version" of her. Um, excuse me what? What exactly in Olivia's mind makes blue her so much better then amber her? The fact that Peter loves 'blue' Olivia? Fucking seriously?! Ugh, show.
+ Despite my dislike of the rest of their scene the final part of the Olivia/Nina conversation was my favourite part of the episode. I found Olivia telling Nina to rebuild a relationship between them when Olivia forgets and for her not to give up on Olivia really moving. I liked Nina accepting Olivia's decision. And their exchange of 'I love yous' even made me a little teary-eyed. Their first scene was really nice as well.
+ I also found Olivia's change from calm acceptance in the previous episode to being uncertain and afraid over her change in memories in this one a bit weird. I mean I thought she was basically blue!Olivia with only hazy memories of amber!Olivia so why would she suddenly be afraid?
+ It was great to see September well. What did he mean by 'they hid the universe and locked him out'? They took away his ability to travel in time/space? What I find most interesting though is that he has an Observer accomplice who helped him.
+ You know, I don't know that Walter is the best person to take advice from on what "the right thing to do ethically" is. Just saying.
+ How would Peter running away to New York help his situation in any way? Was he just giving up on going 'home'? It would have made far more sense to me if he'd decided to go to the Red!verse instead. I miss the red!verse.
