The Vampire Diaries 3x14 Review

• My favourite bit in the episode: Elena at the ball with a Salvatore on each arm - ♥♥♥♥♥
• I loved Elijah showing up to save Elena from Rebekah. That made me so happy. So much smiling. There may have been squee. I really wish we could have seen their conversation though. And we didn't even get a dance. Boo.
• I thought for sure that Elena was going to warn Elijah somehow not to drink the champagne and I was a little surprised when she didn’t. As an Elijah/Elena shipper this made me sad but at the same time I love how ruthless Elena can be. I also like that she was upset about betraying him.
• I like that Elena and Salvatores are still having their confabs.
• I love how Elena refuses to not be in control of her own life or her own decisions. ♥
• Also love: "I think he needs to figure out that you can look out for yourself." and "Maybe you should stop being such a controlling dick, Damon." Because it's so true!
• "I'm mad at you because I love you" - Damon
"Well maybe that's the problem." - Elena
*flail* Is it wrong that I kind of love this? Elena was way harsh and yet I can never not empathize with her. Of course Elena is going to push back after such a declaration. She's barely started to deal with her feelings for him despite how much closer they've gotten this season. She still loves Stefan and that relationship, with a seemingly much more stable vampire, crashed and burned hard. She knows who Damon is and the things he's done and frankly she has a lot of shit going on right now and she just doesn't have time to deal with this. Plus Damon was kind of trying to manipulate her with his feelings there and I can see her being mad about that. What she said was impulsive but while she later tells Stefan that she regretted it I don't know that I believe her.
Mostly I was just left feeling all sorts of feelings for both of them.
• "My emotions?! How is this even happening right now? – Damon." lol I love how incredulous he sounded. Poor Damon.
• Damon's acting out after his confrontation with Elena was much better directed this time. Save Matt, 'kill' one Original and fuck another. Still self-destructive but as it's not killing friends or other people important to those he cares about I consider it personal growth.
• "Don't blame me, this was all her, right down to the broken neck." - Stefan. Um, I don't remember Elena telling Stefan to kill Damon. She looked horrified when he did it though I suppose that doesn't confirm or deny. Did she tell him to do it or was Stefan lying? I can buy either and I honestly don't know which I'd prefer.
• Maybe it's because it's been so long since I've watched the show but Klaus's interest in Caroline feels really sudden. Like I must have forgotten or missed something. I’m really torn about Klaus/Caroline. On one hand, he’s grown on me a little. He can be fun to watch and is ridiculous. On the other, he’s Klaus. Caroline can do so much better. But I was rather enjoying them this episode. But... KLAUS. He staked Jenna! If Caroline got together with him it would just be... hands wrong. That should be pretty unforgivable for everyone who knew her right? ALSO while she is currently alive Klaus did kill Elena as well so... not the best romantic option.
On another hand, Caroline telling Klaus off was fabulous. More please. Also I kind of loved his response to it being of a drawing and thank you for her honesty. I'm so torn!
• Rebekah/Damon were hot.
• I liked the Elena/Esther scene and hope we get more. When Esther explained her plan and reasoning Elena was noticeably shocked and I just can't see her making the same choice. Elena puts her family above everything.
• So this ritual Esther is doing – it’s totally going to need a sacrificed Elena isn’t it? It can't be as simple as she told Elena.
• “Rebekah tell me how handsome I am.” – Kon
“Oh, Kon, you know I can’t be compelled.” – Rebekah
LOL
• I was hoping Rebekah wouldn’t be holding a grudge against Elena because I really loved their last few scenes but I guess that was a bit too much to expect.
• I thought Caroline was going to be Elena’s date/bodyguard? I LOVE that idea. And it was unusually sloppy of the writers to bring it up and then drop it. They could have easily placed Caroline’s dressing scene earlier, had the girls arrive together and when Stefan and Damon showed up it would have made perfect sense for Caroline to leave, and then she could have run into Klaus. Easy, and it would’ve had the bonus effect of not making me wonder if the writers have short term memory loss.
• Where the hell was Bonnie all episode? Why wasn't she there? It wasn't like not having an invitation was stopping anyone else. There were so many reasons for her to be there starting with the fact that Ayana was her ancestor (of course she was, I knew it!)
• I loved Elena’s gown. Caroline’s was pretty too. They both looked amazing.
• I find it interesting that Klaus is so hesitant to start something with Kon. As a hybrid isn’t he stronger than normal vampires even other Originals? Kon really is the psycho in the family isn’t he?
