The Vampire Diaries 3x21 Review

Before Sunset

• I loved the original Mystic Falls gang kitchen party. I loved: "And to all of you. My family." I just wish that we could have seen more of them hanging out.

• I really liked Caroline/Rebekah at the beginning. Both of them offering their condolences (Esther/Alaric) and then working together against Alaric.

• I enjoyed Klaus’s attack on the Gilbert house. Loved Damon’s “Missed me! Missed me again!” The guys should have known shutting the door wouldn’t work.

• Stefan was definitely affected when he desiccated Klaus and I love that. I also like that the show found a way to get rid of Klaus, believably, for awhile without killing him.

• I loved this scene:

"I thought I taught you better." - Alaric
"You did." - Elena

Elena being smart and getting the better of Alaric was great. I loved her saving Caroline.

• Elena cutting her throat – yikes! I love when she is hardcore. Also love that she figured it out and didn’t just assume Alaric’s feelings for her were coming through like I did.

• I loved that Elena got up in the middle of the night to re-paint the third bedroom. That is so her. I also loved her and Jeremy agreeing that they hate that room. I don't blame them. Oh, and the Jeremy/Elena scene at the end was great. I've missed them.

• I liked the Stefan/Damon bonding in the car.

• I liked the Caroline/Klaus scene at the school. They're somehow still getting to me.

• Esther's failsafe was actually pretty good - she knows he only wants to kill vampires and by trying him to a human life he won't live too long even if he does go evil.

• I thought it was interesting that Elena asked Tyler to call Stefan.



• Why does this show keep insisting on torturing Caroline?! Okay, because most people like her and as a vampire it won’t kill her but still – stop it, show!!

• Yeah like we couldn't see Elena's collapse coming. Why the hell didn't the guys immediately take her to the hospital? Klaus drained a hell of a lot of her blood so even if the knock on the head was okay she should probably have had a transfusion. And even if she felt fine head wounds, even something that seems really minor, are notoriously tricky. They are all stupid. And Meredith needs to beat all of them over the head for it. OH - also Elena then went and had tequila shots...

• "Well if she chooses you I'll leave town and let you two be happy and not be bothered by me." - Stefan. OMG was he mentally going lalala during her whole speech about how she can't bear the idea of losing either of them? Who exactly is this supposed to be for because it certainly isn't Elena. Oy. Mostly I'm blaming Stefan here because it feels like while Damon agreed he was mostly just going along with Stefan. I think if she did choose Stefan Damon would still stick around because he loves Stefan and Elena is his friend and both of them are his family.

I am really irritated by the way the show is going with these three. Why couldn't it have continued in the same way it started back in season one without any of this annoying 'Elena must choose!' and her picking one of them apparently ending her relationship with the other and just arg. These three love each other - every way you can look at it. This is stupid.


Also I had a couple nitpicks:

• Why wouldn’t Caroline keep running instead of trying to get in her car? I'm pretty sure vampires can move faster than cars. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Human instincts still hanging around?

• Why was Bonnie’s neck still bleeding if Damon fed her his blood?

• Why wouldn’t Stefan immediately call Elena down when Damon/Bonnie arrived?

• Why didn’t Bonnie use CPR on Jeremy?
