iariaWe All Go A Little Mad Sometimes
• Oh, Elena.
• I loved Damon saving Elena by jumping off Wickery Bridge with her. ♥
• It was great seeing Katherine again even if it wasn't really Katherine. It has been far too long and I really want to see her and vampire!Elena interacting. Beyond seeing her I just really loved that Katherine was one of the people Elena's subconscious showed up as. That was perfect.
Also perfect: “I was you before you even existed.” I would love for the show to explore this fear of Elena's more.
• I also loved the 'Miranda'/Elena scenes. The way Elena leaned into Miranda's hand, and called her 'mommy' in this broken little voice, and the whole 'ghost!Elena' idea - I loved it all.
• I love the way the show keeps putting in little moments of Damon continuing to mourn Alaric. And I really love that because of that grave scene a couple episodes back you just know that Alaric is right there with Damon being supportive and mourning the fact that he can't drink.
• The show went a bit darker than usual with the gang killing Chris in order to save Elena... and I kind of like it. I like the moral complexity and darkness it added. Our main group has always been very 'us vs everyone' and this episode highlighted that very well. That last scene between Caroline and Tyler was excellent. Caroline was sad about them killing Chris but he wasn't family, wasn't one of them, and so he was expendable in the need to protect one of their own even if he did help them.
I like the show didn't try and mitigate what they did by making Chris a bad guy. There is more to his story - a werewolf can only become a werewolf by killing after all - but what they showed us of him was a seemingly nice guy who took a huge risk by helping them. And then they turned around and sacrificed him. That is really dark and yet makes complete sense for these characters. I really hope the show explores this more.
• This could also be leading to a very interesting story for Tyler. He is very much a part of the Mystic Falls family at this point but for most of the show he's been on the outskirts of it and now he has another family - the werewolves and hybrids. And his bond with them is likely as strong if not stronger then his bond with the rest of the Mystic Falls gang. I foresee some divided loyalties.
• Jeremy's line about staking Damon - lol. That was a bit adorable. He really wants to be Damon's new BFF doesn't he?
• I liked the Damon/Matt scene.
• I'm pissed that we get Elena inadvertently killing Jeremy and then they don't interact again in the episode. WTF?! ALSO - Jeremy ends up killing someone in order to save her life which is a huge deal (and the reason she sent him away). I thought for sure the last scene would be between them. The next episode had better have a great scene between them. I was also annoyed with the fact that her killing him wasn't more of a focus in Connor's torment of her.
