The Vampire Diaries 4x09 Review

• I don’t really understand this whole sire bond situation I think. Because Damon ordering Elena away at the end really came off a lot like him using the bond to control her actions (making her return home) than of him breaking the bond in any way. I literally don’t understand – how does it work? It makes no sense to me how it works.
• I'm sad about Carol being killed off. I've really grown to like her over the seasons and I loved the Carol and Tyler's relationship. Their scene in this episode was really lovely. I did like that Carol's last words and thoughts were about protecting her son. I also liked her demeanor in that last scene - terrified but in control of herself.
• I was expecting Elena to say something like “We are all we have left.” to Jeremy. I loved their hug. I also kind of loved him trying to kill her and her restraining him.
• I love that Damon stood in front of Jeremy the second time he approached Elena but why wouldn’t Jeremy immediately try and stake Damon?
• The show did an excellent job setting up the April situation - from the unexpected April/Rebekah bonding in 4x03 to April asking over her and Jeremy giving her his vervain bracelet (that of course Caroline doesn't know about because these people don't talk, yeesh.) April immediately heading for Rebekah, and I assume de-daggering her, made complete sense and I'm excited to see how that plays out.
• It looks like Jeremy/Bonnie might be a thing again. I'm - neutrally positive about it. It's so much better than her falling for Shane which I was afraid of. Plus I think they could be good together.
• I liked that Klaus has caught on to Caroline (because he’d have to be pretty dumb not to) but that he went along with her anyway because spending time with her was more important then figuring out what they were up to.
• I’m shaking my head at Stefan and Caroline. I can actually understand their guilt over Klaus – he consistently nice to Caroline (minus the whole ‘forcing Tyler to bite her’ situation) and was Stefan’s friend. I even agree with Stefan wondering if they even have the right to judge and pointing out that they’ve done horrible things (well, Stefan and Damon, not so much Caroline). This is true. Their conclusion however not so much. I can certainly see how someone outside the group could look at them all and decide they’re the same (well, the Salvatores) but in group Klaus has done horrible things to all of them. Also they weren’t actually going to kill him.
• Interesting that Klaus drown Carol instead any number of horrible things he could have done to her – feeding on her, ripping her head off or her heart out, etc. I wonder if this was his version of merciful?
